Edinburgh City signing Beattie and possibly Riordan, are just for the shirt sales. Wee (fun) club thinking

Spoiler

In all seriousness though, Beattie would do a job for City and I wish them the best of luck for trying to survive the season ahead.

aye diddy team signs well known player in his twilight years to try to flog shirts. I'm glad our biggest Scottish clubs never stoop to such tactics...

Literally no one ever thought that about Beattie.

10 Years ago Beattie was establishing himself for Celtic and had already played for Scotland.  I think most people would've assumed he'd kick on and become a regular international tbf.

Apparently Riordan was playing for St Bernard's as a trialist last night.  I don't even like the boy but am astonished no one has had him at least in for pre-season.

No being funny but who cares what he does off the park when he's at Edinburgh city or any other club at this level. He'll always be in the limelight whether he's not playing or at city so don't see what difference it would make.

He'd be better than Beattie anyway. He's just a big lump.

True, but I'm not really aware of how Edinburgh city's squad is made up, just thinking he might not be the best role model for younger players.

I don't think Big Joe would take any nonsense from Mr Riordan let alone our management team...

Joe will know Derek quite well I'd imagine.  Both went to the same school I'm sure and played for Granton Sporting Club, albeit Joe was a year older.

Riordan would be a quality signing at this level can't believe there is anyone who would be bothered by what goes on off the pitch when you think of the amount of goals he'd score

He scored 4 in 11 for East Fife in League 2 a few years ago. It's not bad, but it's hardly prolific.
