Both sets of fans decided to break strict stay at home orders and act in a violent manner due to the outcome of a football match. If we had to boil it down further then literally the only argument is the Celtic fans actions were even less understandable as they were out on the streets because the team they follow lost a game of fucking football. I wouldn’t take that stance though, both sets of fans acted in exactly the same deplorable manner with no justification. Ok lets just completely ignore the context as to why people behaved the way they did and why laws were infringed. In fact no that is also fucking ridiculous.

sergie's no1 fan
Ah so the hoards of zombies actually damaged some of the memorials they made such a big deal about last summer? Absolute shower of c'nts.

It's like management-speak that says nothing and means nothing. So what if they 'initiated contact'? What they don't admit is that they did f**k all to stop fans gathering over the weekend. Not one message, not one tweet out of dozens asked fans to stay away. It wouldn't have taken much, but their players revelled in it. Even Gerrard's weak comments the day before were softened with 'try to' prefixes. Rangers did nothing until they were called out on it. As usual any ounce of criticism is all it takes for a mangled statement to come out of Ibrox.

But other than initiating contact with the Scottish Government what did they club agree to do to help maintain public safety? Was players and staff entertaining and celebrating with fans what was agreed? Is that how they planned to use Stevie G's profile? Ira Gaines
It's obviously fucking nonsense. As a club, they did more encouraging than anything else. They know it and the fucking mutants on here trying to defend them know it too.

The club raised the subject with the Government and the SPFL, they took advice from the Police and the Scottish Government on the message they should send out via Gerrard, they’d prepared a statement to go out but the Scottish Government never got back to them until fans had shown up, Rangers moved the players and staff away from the stadium and played tannoy announcements telling the fans gathered to go home. The scenes at George Square are out with Rangers’ remit to control. -

Don't think Stevie got the e-mail Also if the steer was to move players away why allow them to congregate and engage with fans at the gates of ibrox and auchenhowie? Surely that just encourages more fans to come knowing the players are out to celebrate with them? Edited March 8, 2021 by Jinky67

Given that this was a formal meeting there will be formal minutes which will explain precisely why the SPFL and ScotGiv are in the wrong here. That’s a different point altogether, I was referring to Swinney getting clamped for lying about the club being silent on the matter. Its not a good look for the players and management hanging out a window to celebrate with the fans, but, they were already there so it can hardly be cited as a contributing factor in the fans turning up.

It also lasted for about five minutes before Gerrard, Tavernier and Morelos appeared at the window asking fans to disperse. -

kent_don
haha - it’s mot a good look when the club are too thick to send out a few tweets with the words to the effect of: we urge all supporters to celebrate while adhering to social distancing guidelines from the government. Or were they waiting for police Scotland to ok a statement so they could blame it on them?
