Track and Field thread

The subject is still heavily controversial though.  Her form has only recently picked up again, since the CAS overturned a ruling regarding testosterone suppressants until more information is available.  The full outcome isn't due out until next summer, with the IAAF looking to have limits on permissible level limits reinstated.

It's an extremely grey area with regards to how they go about this, as in Semenya's case, her body exhibits the genetics of both male and female.  The chromosomal makeup can be that of a man, while at the same time showing all the physical attributes ie. reproductive organs of a female.

It's a strange one and a difficult one for the governing bodies. They ideally want a level field and Semenya's body is in such a way that she has a significant natural advantage over everyone else.

Having said that, Usain Bolt is naturally the fastest sprinter in the world and there isn't suggestions that we should somehow handicap him.

Britain don't seem to be having a very good athletics meet so far. I would expect a slash in funding to come soon.

Interestingly, our biggest failure so far these games is rowing! Only sport that is finished where we haven't met our target of 6 medals. Though to be fair, we got 3 golds and 2 silvers and topped the medal table so surely a slash in funding would be unbelievably harsh?!

Agreed plus you have to be careful. Swimming totally flopped at London... target 5-7 medals, got 3... and was the only sport to miss its target. Forward to Rio... target 3-5 medals, got 6.

EDIT: Athletics should hits its target of 7-9. Currently on 4. If people performed to their heat/etc. times would reach 8 (Farah, Sharp, Bradshaw, Womens 4x100m) but other relays have a shout, and three further athletes qualified 5th fastest. Surely get 3 = 7.

Surely they'll try to counter-appeal this. Commentators doing their best to find a reason but frankly can't.

After the crushing disappointment of his individual performance and being so visibly pumped for this relay - then nailing it - if this disqualification stands Rooney is either going to destroy the place or need placed on suicide watch.

Yeah no one has no idea why! They've disqualified them quick enough, so surely they can explain why quick enough. Had a great chance of a bronze also.

Whatever the story, pretty farcical to have 2 SFs and end-up disqualifying 3 teams.

Rooney didn't appear to have taken off too early, and we were in first until the Bahamas screeched by coming into the home straight.

EDIT: Interestingly the disqualifications get Brazil into the final.
