He started against Lithuania and I wrongly remembered that as his debut. It was perhaps his first start. Either way he looked like a rugby winger who had never played football before.

Combined they have raked in well over £50M. Beggars belief how these two guys ever managed to get international honours. Still they won’t be complaining as their bank balances will be very healthy. Transfer fees in the top leagues are mind-boggling in general. There must be a lot of "how much did they say they'll give us for him?!" type conversations between agents and managers. We'll always give unwarranted caps to young players like Oli Burke because we're absolutely desperate for top-class attacking players. Think about the excitement around Mark Burchill, compared to what he'd done and what he went on to accomplish. You could argue that just one Bale or Lewandowski would've seen us qualify for tournaments with some regularity over the past twenty years, despite our flaws elsewhere.
Stellaboz
Burchill was fantastic at Dunfermline, sometimes it's forgotten he was even there, but what a player.

You could argue that just one Bale or Lewandowski would've seen us qualify for tournaments with some regularity over the past twenty years, despite our flaws elsewhere. I think you’re acknowledging it in your post, but caps to promising youngsters aren’t really unwarranted. With hindsight it’s easy find reasons why it didn’t work out, but Burke had a purple patch at Forest and went to Leipzig. He was (and still is) lightening fast, and at 17 that is well worth a try. It’s similar as to why players like Greg Wylde can rack up appearances at club level at a young age, but end up with fairly unremarkable careers. Even at times where everyone expects that to be the case, timing and location drive those ‘oddities’. It happens with every country and club, though as you say, we may be over-burdened to jump early for attackers given our historic issues up front. At least, right now, we might be only handing out a few caps before ending the experiment, rather than the 12-20 range we’ve done with Burke and McBurnie…
Old Bing
Comes off the bench today to score a 95min equaliser against stuttgart. With one of the best goals ever scored (that bit may or may not be true) The Oliver Burke renaissance begins

Gordopolis
Kenny Dalglish. John McGinn. ...and now, Oliver Burke. The Golden Triumvirate. If a book is written about the similarities between the three, will it be an analogy?
