He was the second most influential player in La Liga last year after Messi, with his contributions directly responsible for Atleti's amazing defensive record last season. Contrary to popular belief, Atleti's back four (Gimenez apart) were rank last year. Godin was never fully fit, same goes with Savic. Arias and Juanfran weren't good enough at right back to hold down their spot and Filipe Luis so suspect defensively that Saul was more effective in that position when drafted in from midfield. He's an incredible shot stopper, his handling is excellent and distribution excellent.
