The Mantis
More bird porn... I've been trying to get the Grebes doing their mating dance with the weeds, but obviously this pair don't bother with foreplay.

Are the Farnes any better?

Are the Farnes any better? I’ve never been to the isle of May I’m afraid. I’d encourage anybody to go to the Farne Islands, great day out. Take a boat which lands on Inner Farne from Seahouses. I’ve been going pretty much every year for over 20 years. Best time to visit in my view is late June when the Tern chick are all cute and fluffy, as seen above.

That’s pretty surprising if you’re in Fife, if that was me I’d be nipping over two or three times a year. As it is I try to go once a year, it’s a great day out for me as well. Where I live there won’t be much in it distance wise, meant to try the Farne Islands for a while. Been to Coquet Island from Amble though, for the Roseate Terns, but non-landing. Also try to go to the Bass about every four or five years, expensive but amazing. Changed days since I first went in 1980 and Fred Marr charged a fiver and that included landing. The Seabird Centre is really milking it.

I landed on the Bass Rock pre-seabird centre, I’m guessing 1998/99 and it was a fantastic experience. I’m not based in Fife but I’ll certainly look to head over to the Isle of May when I can.
Ziggy
I’m sure you will all have been waiting for a pheasant training update. He’s now quite comfortable eating seeds from a plastic cup. Edited April 3, 2021 by Ziggy

Billy Jean King
Just saw my 1st Swallow in Troon. That's about a week ahead of normal for here. Bloody cold for them despite the sun, frost didn't lift in the shade here until about 10am this morning.
KnightswoodBear
I've noticed this at the bird feeder a couple of times but it's away at the first sign of movement when I try to take a picture. Managed to get a couple of it today. Any ideas what it is?

The finches and tits generally don't give a f**k if open the back door, which is only about 10 feet away, but any kind of movement and that one is away.
