New clubs in the East of Scotland

Recommended Posts

Going by the posts in the junior forum there might be a club/clubs  holding off to stay in juniors.

Yup the guy from Dundonald said that they could be swayed to stay Junior.

The arrogance and lies from the top table only strengthened my clubs resolve to leave.

Anyone holding off based solely on last nights meeting are really rolling the dice on their clubs future more so than moving to EoS.

This.

I would expect that at the very least those who have applied and were in attendance last night would also be looking to attend the EoS meeting to compare and contrast, doing their due diligence on both options.

Would be surprising if any of the clubs who have applied were swayed at this stage by only listening to one side of the debate.

Perhaps suggests they weren't fully on board pre application to begin with and maybe looking for reasons to hold off. Which is fair enough I guess, but you'd hope that anyone applying had already looked at the pros and cons well in advance and had applied based on those, in which case the meetings don't really change anything.

Good to see your still up

"New clubs in East of Scotland League" ?

How about "Old clubs in the East of Scotland League" as a quick alternative ?  Historical records  show that

* Penicuik Athletic were founder members of the East of Scotland (senior) League in  1931/32, and champions of it in both 1931/32 and 1937/38

* Bo'ness  were East of Scotland League champions in 1938/39.

You are probably embarrassed that I was "still up" , now that I have exposed your club's past in the seniors !

If it is okay to "withdraw an application" to join the EoS (which presumably it is) after further discussions with the SJFA,  can other clubs, also after having further discussions with the SJFA,  submit "late applications to join the EoS", if they don't like (or believe) what TJ is proposing ?

If the aspiration was to have 2x16 EoS Divisions for 2018/19, then there are still 4 vacancies, and possibly 5,  if an existing applicant pulls out.  I believe that there have been precedents for late applications to join a different league in the past. Is this correct ?

Trying to 'dissuade' East  junior clubs from leaving at this stage, could backfire on TJ. It may be advisable for him to concentrate his involvement into seeking a pyramid arrangement for the West & North juniors  in 2019/20, or beyond ?

Bo'ness United could claim that history, but use 1945 as their founding date rather than claiming that of either Bo'ness or Bo'ness Cadora as their starting point. Think the Penicuik Athletic of today are a separate entity from the earlier team that eventually went defunct after being in both the EoS and the juniors at various points and there is no unbroken continuity there unlike in Bo'ness. Most pro-pyramid entry clubs especially in the west appear to be willing to give Tom Johnston a chance on securing tier 6 entry for an intact junior grade, but they'll soon change their tune if as I suspect is highly likely that can't be delivered, because the SFA are only interested in a smaller subset of clubs that will go through licensing.

I understand Kelty were allowed to apply after the closing date last season. The EGM is being held on 26th April, therefore I guess there is still time for late applications. In reality there's nothing to lose by doing so.

A lot of foundation dates in the Juniors are a bit spurious.  Bo'ness United are correct with 1945, although can legitimately claim lineage further back given they were the result of a merger between Bo'ness FC (Senior) and Bo'ness Cadora (Junior).  Penicuik Athletic really can only claim back to 1954 at a push (if you ignore the 10 year gap in the 1990's when they were out of the game).  Even Linlithgow Rose's 1889 claim is on a very shoogly peg.

Correct re Penicuik Athletic winning EoS Lge in 31/32 & again in 38/39 but they were not founder members.  EoS Lge started 1923/24 with Penicuik Athletic taking part from 30/31 when they finished as runners-up.

Thank you for clarifying that.

But apparently the Bo'ness FC who were in the Scottish Football League during the 1920's and early 1930's, was a different club. Same ground as in the  1945 reincarnation ?

Newtown Park was the home of Bo'ness FC when they played in the SFL.  The old stand was the original from those times, pity is was taken down a few years ago.

This is a matter for the EoS and its clubs to decide. Tomorrow's meeting with the new applicants, should be very interesting. ahead of the proposed EGM

For someone allegedly not involved with any clubs committee your 24/7 views must therefore be pure hearsay.

Imagine that, someone posting their own opinion on an internet forum [emoji15]

There's no "allegedly" about it.

You are posting information as being factual based on hearsay - no allegedly about it.
