Not one of those people have benefited from the union. Of course it could be argued that none of them would benefit from an independent Scotland either but that isn’t the point at the moment. People often talk about the SNP being a bit of a cult and at times that’s probably true but there’s a really bizarre cult in Scotland of people who don’t stand or want anything - they just oppose the SNP. Most probably don’t know why or could reasonably argue what their own views are but they’ve fallen down a bit of a rabbit hole where they feel a certain way for really no other reason other than they feel they have to.

Perhaps this was always the case but you’ve seen in Britain and America in the last few years, largely whipped up by social media, that there’s a lot of people out there who live really sad, empty lives. If this mob lived in Liverpool they’d probably have been rioting outside that hotel last week. If they lived in America they’d be Qanon Trump supporters. They’re people who have little and who want to feel something and feel part of something. They’re people the country they love so much have let down - and they don’t even realise it.

I imagine that whoever replaces Sturgeon will still be met with a "Eh hate that man/wummin" - without actually being able to elucidate why they hate them.

I am not massively bothered either way on constitutional politics so all that really sticks in the mind at this point is her cynical behavior during COVID.

We are keeping schools and workplaces open that are high risk to stop the ecoonomy from imploding so we are not actually going to be able to stop this wave in its tracks but lets kid on we are trying to by banning low risk outdoor activities like lower league fitba while letting bible bashers go to church indoors because I pure hated Arthur Montford and Scotsport when I was a bairn or whatever....

That's an utterly bizarre take.

Musk really has ripped the arse out that site.

I would presume that the tweet would be illegal to shout at her directly in the street?

I was out in the car yesterday with the radio on and what struck me most was the rambling repetitiveness of her resignation speech. I had to go look it up afterwards - 17 minutes.

The tl;dr version - self aggrandising, self congratulatory pish.

A day on from it, can anyone actually point me to any sort of metric that confirms Scotland to be a materially better place for anyone than it was 8 years ago?

You could point to work that has been done in terms of early years provision, nursery hours, new benefits around the Scottish child payment, more progressive income taxation, the Scottish National Investment Bank, a push to transition to zero carbon... and yeah, on every aspect of that you could think she could go further, and that opportunities have been missed.

For me though, I find these takes fairly amusing in that they usually come from people who absolutely reject the idea that a Scottish First Minister should be able to positively impact the lives of those in Scotland and that instead, the current settlement that leaves WM the vast majority of spending, taxation, benefits and foreign policy decisions should be preserved at all costs.

If you do not feel like you are in a better space now than you were 8 years ago, the simple fact of the matter is that the UK government is responsible for that via it's own decisions, and that the SG has expended a large amount of monetary and political capital simply on mitigating those policies as far as possible up here.

I got my account suspended a few months back during the 'Celtic and Rangers not getting two stands' debate because I tweeted to a Celtic fan, 'Think about it and don't be a gimp'.

So saying someone is a gimp is FAR worse than wishing rape and murder on them. No worries!

I got a 12 hour ban for calling Donald Trump a gimp in 2020.

The joke was on them though, because I slept through the ban.

You do realise that the churches were closed, right?

The silver lining of her standing down is that the dreadful patter of “Nippy Sweety”, “Wee Jimmy Krankie” and “Nicoliar” will hopefully be forgotten about on this forum + social media

And the press, imagine being a journalist, joining the daily express and then writing "Krank call may save the union, wee Jimmy Krankie seems ..." Minter levels of employment for an adult.

It's in the process of being dualed. It won't be on time, but it'll get done.

I reckon 2025 was an ambitious target even without Covid. The length of time the stretch after Luncarty took to dual I’m not sure how many other contractors have the manpower/machinery to take on projects of that size never mind taking on 2/3 of them simultaneously.

I think the latest tender only had 1 bidder and it came in way over the budget they had expected.

Still the SNP gov made the commitment and have to be held to that.

And it's fair to call them on the timetable. I wouldn't count it as a failure though.

Local taxation reform is a failure. In 8 years under her leadership they never even tried to push forward with it.

But the dual A9? They made the commitment to do it, have kept the budget in place throughout and it'll eventually be there, realised in glorious asphalt for every crased, sleeped deprived long haul artic driver to barrel up and down.
