Ayr United - 17-18 rumblings and mumblings

Recommended Posts

I've considered this signing and while a bit underwhelmed im quite happy.  Always thought Bell was a tough opponent, even when we were bodying Stranraer.

Might get to see a baws oot 523 now

An unremarkable but solid signing imo. He’ll provide back up for Adams but it’ll be more interesting to see a midfield with both of them in it. Definitely one of the hardest and most solid midfields in the league which should hopefully see us improve defensively.

We are going up to Kirkcaldy with c**t kicking on our minds.  Definately going to play nasty.

Time will tell but this signing might be pivotal in our season. Seems to be an ongoing problem with fit players in our central midfield and the lack of clarity speaks volumes. Heavily reliant on Adams who himself can’t play a lot of games for different reasons. Also really need a strong midfield to offer protection as we can ship goals for fun at the back. Should our midfield absentees return Bell can also help cover in central defence where someone with a bit of fight would be useful. If this fixes some of our current problems so we earn promotion then his deal is worthwhile.

If you look at this signing more closely, and really think about it logically, it could be one of the most inspired additions that McCall will have made in his life.

Crawford, Doc and Geggan would walk into any team in this league and maybe, a couple above us too.

Excellent signing at the right time.

No pissing about from McCall or the board, well done.

Now, c'mon Ayr, let's get all 3 points today and then all roads lead to Fife next week!!!!

With the injury situation and the season rapidly running out I’d say necessary rather than inspired. Worth noting Bell was captain at Stranraer who were always well organised and up for a battle. Hopefully can also set others an example and organise those around him which we miss with Geggan being out.

I agree with it being necessary, but how many times before has the glaringly obvious been staring us all in the face, only for things to fizzle out without the property action or acquisition made?

A very necessary addition, but could also be such an inspired choice of player with the type of personality he seems to be, the fact that this may be his last chance saloon at a title and full time, he knows the league and opposition, he knows our players, has the security of a year and a half contract and can play in different positions.

As good a signing as we could ever hope to make in a January window for the exact set of circumstances that we find ourselves in , and done early as well.

Hope to f**k he plays a blinder now after all that.

Agree with most of that. If Geggan returning at the end of January is our first glimmer of hope on the injury front then this could stop our investment in full time football being completely derailed. Just need to hope Adams can avoid AstroTurf, injuries or a red card for the next three games. After all the good work and progress  made I can’t believe we could find ourselves in a position like the last two seasons. Perhaps the media guy can pin McCall down after the game and get some facts around the extent of the injuries.

Steven Bell is a fantastic signing for Ayr, very jealous tbh. One of the finest i've ever seen at the Albion. Its a shame injuries ruined his career because he could've been a good Championship/decent Premiership player.

I am amazed at how many players you have out injured, it seems like deju vu from last time you were in this league as it was about this time that we pulled away from you and won the title comfortably which is exactly what Raith will do if they beat you on Saturday
