From memory I think the most we were ever adrift was 8 points - I remember going to Ayr in February and winning to cut the gap to 5 with a game in hand. If we'd lost that we'd have been 11 points behind and probably game over.

Stubbs signed both on the recommendation of Martin Christie the ex chief scout who was bagged not long after Stubbs.Unbelievable stuff even for a banger like Stubbs. Hi. Just wanted to put out on here that this is totally untrue. We had Cooke watched for Truro last season but he was never mentioned to Alan as a target. Heaton was never watched. The first the recruitment department knew of these signings was when they were about to be announced. Martin

Out of interest, what players in the summer were identified by the recruitment department and what ones weren't?

We reduced it to 4 points after 2 wins, but it went back to 7 points by January. Ayr played an extra game over us and took it to 8 before we beat them on the last weekend in February. More notable, the gap to Raith was 19 points at one point and we made that up!

Demented Zebra
Mendes back as a sports science coach. Is it needed ? Diets on what to eat could be looked after by a specialist once a week. Fitness surly coaches know when a player is fit or not , you just need a stopwatch and dedicated running area. Just seems a waste of money. Jimmy Nichol in next. 2

We’ve had a sports scientist for a number of years now, it’s only because this one is a ‘name’ that people are taking notice. They cover everything from diet, to fitness, to rehabilitation, to weight training, etc. No longer is it just a case of running up Gullane Sands.

Fuctifano
I'll be intrigued to see how he does for you. I know every new manager (as Caldwell did) says he'll improve the fitness of the team but we definitely seemed to wilt late on in games over the last few years, our points differential in the last 5 and 10 minutes was hugely negative and some fans were pointing fingers at Mendes. We have enough numbers in the coaching staff from my own point of view. We have 4 already Nichol will make 5 Mendes 6. We are St Mirren with a hard core of 3,000 supporters a small club. We have never had that many before . It's only my view I would rather see money going on a experienced player in January. For me it's a complete waste of a wage for a team just promoted fighting to survive.

Agree diet is very important you could hire a nutritionist one day a week who will have better knowledge than a sports science coach. Fitness is why coaches are hired. Anyway as long as we survive this season that's all I care about though I have a very bad feeling about tomorrow.
