Samson is a fairly standard Scottish keeper who could do a job at any club from the bottom 6

He certainly wouldn't with us.

Samson is fine. He's no world beater, but that's why he plays for St Mirren. He was comfortably the best keeper in the championship last season, and at Saints at least, he's been much better than bigger (and more expensive) names like Paul Gallacher, Marian Kello and Jamie Langfeild. He's also better than Billy O'Brien. We could probably get a better keeper, but it's not a priority.

He had the best defence in front of him.

The back four hold the clean sheet record. Deservedly so, for keeping the ball away from Samson.

I will assume the Sunderland fans will not be too fussed about winning the Checkatrade Trophy.

Absolutely no chance of Cup glory with Ross and Fowler in command.

Cue the reddies

Samson is the best keeper we have had in years.

Do you suffer from Alzheimer's ? You're just repeating yourself over and over again.  Why don't you have a go at someone else ?

I liked the bit where this Ludo lad goes on to say he's absolute shit and wouldn't hack it in the top division, only for someone in literally the next post to point out the last time he was there he was called up to the Scotland squad. That's gotta hurt. Normally you need to wait a few replies before being shown completely up.

Anyway, as for the Samson himself, he is very much just a shot stopper, not unlike just about every other goalkeeper from the middle of the Premiership down. He has his weaknesses and his strengths, the big difference comparing him to another keeper in the same vein is that we know what his strengths and weaknesses are and can work around them.

It's not like he's Bullock who suffered such a mental breakdown at losing a goal he had to be subbed!

Samson got called up when he was playing for us and I was astounded. He is a fucking terrible keeper, probably one of the worst I have seen at killie.

You're better sticking to red dotting.

You're not up to decent communication.

Not having a go at anybody.

Samson just wont be good enough for next season.

Where's that O'Conner blowing out his arse picture? Alexander easily the best keeper there last season, would've been phenomenal for you guys - probably one the reason we managed to steal so many points during the season

You said that last season before he'd played a league game.

You're not up to judging goalkeeping ability.

Alexander cost you two games against us, especially the second one where he was woefully soft. Every goalkeeper at this level is prone to mistakes, but Samson was a key figure in our saunter to the title, he saved us far more points than he cost us.

From what I can remember Samson chucked them in against us :D the mistake in the 4-1 game was crazy and he managed to let Dale Carrick score of all people in the first half of the season

Yet for all that, St Mirren had a better defensive record than Livi last season, and Samson was key in that. The amount of big saves he made in key moments was a major factor in us having the league wrapped up so early.

In all honesty though, always felt he was a weak link in the St Mirren team - surprised you guys felt the opposite

We got to see him play a lot more often probably. Lots of people laughed when we signed him, and don't like to admit they were wrong, but the facts are Samson was excellent for us this season. To be fair, there probably isn't much in it between Alexander and Samson, but I'd rather have Samson.

The key to our good defence was our back four, not Samson.

Vast majority of play they kept the ball away from Samson.

Like playing with ten men.

Going to be horrendous in the Premiership with far better Teams attacking us.

St Mirren had a better defensive record than Livi because they are better going forward and their possession style kept other teams away from the ball much more than Livi's more direct style.

Neil Alexander was comfortably the best keeper in the division last season for me but Samson is decent. He may well have been next best. Him or maybe Ridgers. Ludo is right about the Championship though. The standard of keepers has regressed in recent years. To be fair only those three and the two relegated keepers were automatic picks.

United, Queens, Dunfermline, Morton & Falkirk all chopped and changed keepers this season (for injury reasons rather than form in some cases).

Good post mate. Gavin Reilly has knocked back Saints twice not because he hates the club more has a new babyand wants to get the best deal possible.  Who can blame him he is as sound as a pound.  Not like Robbie Neilson who wants money St Mirren don't have to take the club forward.  But the idiots can't work than out sadly.
