Junior football, what is the future?

On the North Juniors bit, there was a meeting back in November between the HFL and North Region. And it went as everyone probably would of guessed it would have:

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/sport/football/highland-league/1744053/we-cant-offer-spots-in-the-highland-league-says-secretary-rod-houston/

Which begs the question of why the north region clubs as opposed to the blazers sang a different tune in the SJFA survey and at the AGM last year.

So as it stands....
The Juniors will not take any part in the pyramid season 2019/20,but the SJFA will continue to work with the PWG to come up with a solution to integrate the SJFA clubs for season 2020/21?.

To be honest the solution has been there since day one. West in as they are, one structure top to bottom, nothing has to change other than the seasons start date and changing of cup games etc (nothing insurmountable).

The ersjfa (or clubs that wish to and are below the LL boundary) join the eosfl.

There should really be little requirement for the pwg to even be involved and frankly it is the only sensible solution. Anything else would make a further mockery if the pyramid..... After the licence fiasco.

The logical conclusion in all of this is that the Sjfa and sfa should be looked at in the same light.

Both incompetent as fck.

In fairness that was something that people tried to say last year. There seems to be quite a bit of misunderstanding on the matter. Definitely doesn't excuse it from someone repping a club though. You would hope they would know better.

While on North Region related matters, Inverness City have publicly announced they are folding after their year in abeyance.

It comes with great sadness that we are writing this post! Unfortunately after 13 years the club is having to fold! Throughout the years we have had great success on the park first off in the North Caley league and subsequently in the North Region Junior FA.

During this time however we have not had our problems to seek with having a constant issue of trying to find a home ground. We had thought our problems were solved when we were granted a 5 year lease at the bught park in Inverness, and had hoped this short lease would be extended beyond this. Unfortunately this was not to be last year and we took the decision to take a year out of the juniors to try and find a more permanent home. We have tried every avenue possible, but unfortunately to no avail!

At this time we would like to thank every player, fan, official and committee member who has helped and supported the club along the way! Along with every opposing club who we have had some great battles against over the years! There’s a number of people who deserve big mentions, however I think 3 people in particular deserve a special mention: Stevie Graham, Alastair Wardhaugh and the late Ian Lister. All of whom the club could not have survived as long as it did without them!

Finally a special mention is also reserved for the highland council....for whom we can thank for the death of the football club! Throughout the 13 years of our existence they have been of almost zero assistance, putting barriers up in our way at every single turn! How on earth a city the size of Inverness can’t support a junior football club is staggering, especially when you see the assistance given to many other sports clubs and facilities throughout the city! Not that these other clubs are not worthy but why them and not us - sometimes your face needs to fit!

Inverness has 2 cricket clubs, who often struggle to fulfil fixtures due to number of players, playing out of 2 of the best facilities in Inverness at the meeting park and Fraser park yet we couldn’t get a pitch! We finally got a pitch at the bught, spending £80k doing it up, contributing over £6k a year to the already stretched council coffers and have now been thrown out for what....the pitch is now lying dormant, no longer used! Finally I’ve learnt today that the dalneigh pitches, a venue we were told was not available due to it being used for housing, has recently been given a lease to another football club for 25 years for the huge sum of £1 per annum - nothing fishy going on there I suppose!

The rant could go on, I think everyone ever associated with the club knows all of the issues we have faced!

Sad end to what was a great story! Great friends and great memories made! Hopefully other clubs don’t have as many issues as we do in the future however if they have to deal with that council I’d wish them all the best of luck!

Yes a sad ending for Inverness City who have folded.

Not surprising that City's 5 year lease at the Bught, would not be extended, as this had been clear from the council, well in advance. What is not clear however, is why City's proposed new long lease at the Kirkhill Community Centre,  fell through ?

Also quoting from the above article, who are the football club who have obtained a 25 year lease at the Dalneigh, at a cost of £1 per annum ? There must be some story behind that deal, which is worth telling, assuming it is true ?

Sounds about right for Inverness... the boys running City obviously didn’t have family in the right place. Brutal place for doing business if your face doesn’t fit, the council are backwards as f**k

It's never nice to see clubs fold, but there's more to the City ground saga than is being let on by the chairman here. It's not all about Highland Council owing City a ground over long established clubs in other sports. There's a certain amount of sour grapes in that statement.

And what in heavens name does his final statement “The Highland League are in the same position as they don’t have a clear pathway into the Scottish League until the bottom team in League 2 gets relegated” mean?! There IS a clear pathway from Highland League to SPFL2.....Cove Rangers are well on their way to taking it - with the bottom team in League 2 being relegated (Berwick Rangers to the Lowland League in this instance) if they do. Bizarre that a man in such a prominent position can come across as being so entirely confused.

He also talks about there not being a vacancy in the Highland League, but the league themselves have made it very clear that they're happy to operate with as many as 20 teams. It's not fixed at 18.

The sensible thing to do up north is at some point over the next three months or so is for the PWG/SFA/Whoever to put out a notice asking for notes of interest from clubs in joining a North Tier 6.

From there they can then see how the North can develop with any, if needed, appropriate structure in place for 2020-21.
