Theres going to be elections.  What exactly will Rajoy do if a majority of pro-Indepence representatives are elected?

The obvious answer is a traditional Survivor Series 5 on 5 elimination match.

I don't understand this at all, unless he just wants to wave his Francoist cohones around and say who gives a f**k, Castillia rules.

Spain can’t control Catalonia. Only Catalonia can control what they do, that is just one of the many reasons why they voted for independence. Catalonia voted YES and they’re leaving whether Rajoy likes it or not.

Who voted for independence? 48% in the last election is the only credible one internationally.

We'll see, but I do wonder what Rajoy is up to with the election. I note his emphasis on the word 'legal'... Would he  go so far as to ban pro-independence parties from standing on the grounds that they've performed an illegal act by declaring UDI? That would obviously backfire horrendously.

On the other hand, he may be going ahead with an election in the hope that pro-independence parties simply boycott it as they don't recognise the jurisdiction of Spain to order an election, then press ahead with restoring power to the devolved parliament when it returns only pro-Spanish parties on a lower turnout than the referendum had.

Either way, it's going to solve nothing.

One more team to pump us, unfortunately.

On the subject of Football, are Espanyol not the 'staunch' Spanish team? Could get some juicy derby days in the future.

kinda....

with the exception of the time at the olympic stadium, their home grounds have always been in staunch pro spain neighborhoods - but lot of their fans are just football fans.

That’s completely untrue. All of it. Not one part of that is factually correct.

For me, Rajoy is walking straight into a general strike and an economic catastrophe.

As is Catalonia, which has been one of the most prosperous parts of Spain with pretty well full cultural and language rights. If the Popular Party hadn't butchered the agreed devolved powers rules in 2010 this wouldn't have happened, but the Catalonians are behaving like lemmings too. There seems to be something about the Spanish where they're generally laid back and rational but when a certain switch is clicked they have to attack windmills.
