ICTChris
Labour MP Jared O'Mara, who beat former deputy PM Nick Clegg in the election earlier this year, has apologised for forum posts he made years ago. In the posts, made on the Drowned In Sound forum and the forum of the Morrissey website, O'Mara said that Jamie Callum should be raped with his piano and die, that Michelle McManus only won Pop Idol because she was fat, that Girls Aloud should come to his house for an orgy and that fat people were deified in the West. He also posted several times about Morrissey and gayness' using terms like "fudge packers" and "driving up the Marmite highway". Here are the posts O'Mara has apologised and says he doesn't hold those views now and has changed in the years since the posts were made. One reason why this is interesting is that O'Mara is one of the first MPs, that I'm aware of, who have run into controversy due to forum posts made in their past. He's in his mid 30s and is part of the generation that have spent all their lives online. From this point on are we going to see lots of MPs having to grovel about posts on message boards from when they were students? People didn't really appreciate that the Internet was forever in those days or that these posts were easily traceable. We've also seen that people are willing to grass others up to their jobs for posts on P&B - would you grass up a prospective MP for what they've posted in P&B? Have any P&Bers ever grassed up a P&Ber to the papers for what they've posted online? Have any P&Bers ever tried to delete potentially embarrassing posts following their decision to stand for office? Audaces Fortuna Juvat
I'd take great delight in grassing some pompous MP.

H Wragg
Grassing folk to their employers in the hope of getting them the tin tack (usually the domain of old firm fans, by the way) is cringeworthy in the extreme. Hideous behaviour.
senorsoupe
During our last federal election a couple of candidates were outed for having sent some pretty nasty and stupid tweets a number of years ago, I think it's a bit silly to be digging up old internet posts from when you were a young c**t saying stupid stuff. There was also a candidate who had been a kitchen renovator before running for office who was forced to resign his candidacy after he had been caught pishing in someone's coffee mug by one of these hidden camera shows trying to catch dodgy contractors, he deserved to be punted

And as pished as we was a lot of the time there is no evidence of him pishing in some un-suspecting homeowners coffee mug
dogmc
Just for clarification, was he advocating that Jamie Cullum be: a) raped by his piano b) raped alongside his piano. I think we should be told. Either seem perfectly reasonable

Richey Edwards
She did not understand that there was no such thing as happiness, that the only victory lay in the far future, long after you were dead, that from the moment of declaring war on the Party it was better to think of yourself as a corpse. "We are the dead", he said.
