Interestingly... well, OK, mildly so!... this means we've now crossed a frontier where three-fifths of EOSL clubs have floodlights (24/40) - and across the southerly pyramid two-thirds (adding 15/16 in LL and 9/15 in SOSL). That is a remarkable effort - and massive financial investment - from part-time clubs great 'n small. Go back 25yrs and it was basically just Gala and Hawick, IIRC. EDIT: Actually did think I'd a list in another thread, here it is: Quote East of Scotland 1981 Hawick 1989 Gala 1994 Preston 1996 Edinburgh City (moved to Meadowbank) 1999 LTHV (moved to Saughton) 1990s Heriot-Watt Uni ------------------------------ 2009 Spartans, Gretna 2008 (moved to Raydale) 2011? Ray Patterson
Won't be long until a License (or actively trying to achieve one) may become a soft requirement for the EoS Premier and future WoS Premier.

I don't see there being a need for additional requirements like that within the EoSFL or WoSFL. It just creates another barrier to entry that's not needed. The EoSFL already encourages its members to gain licencing and has a fund to support them doing so. That and seeing those around you getting licenced or doing ground improvements will be enough to see clubs pursue improvements themselves.

Blackburn had lights in 2013 when we moved "next door" to the new place, 3G came later. An uninteresting fact, the actual floodlight poles at Blackburn have been there since the late 1970's/very early 80's when the grass pitch that was there before was turned into an "all weather" black ash pitch. When redevelopment began in 2012, the black ash was turned into grass, and the lights (which were by then inoperative) refurbished. The EoS (and therefore presumably the WoS) require clubs to be committed to the principle of Licencing. It probably doesn't mean a lot in the scheme of things, but they encourage clubs to work towards gaining a Licence, I think we're a while away from the EoS Premier requiring clubs to be Licenced. That might be where a future LL2 comes in. Edited February 26, 2020 by Burnie_man

That might be where a future LL2 comes in. Ultimately (but not within the next few years), I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing a system where requirements gradually go up as you move up the tiers. Like tier 8 being more relaxed on ground rules than the EOS currently are to encourage ambitious amateurs to make the step up, tier 7 same as current EOS requirements, tier 6 need to be working towards a license (maybe fulfilling a slimmed down version of the license rules whilst working on the rest) and SPFL slightly up from LL/HL (like requiring seats for example).
