The Minertaur
2015-16 Stage 3 wasn't complete yet and it was crucial to the club that they achieved promotion this season. Stuart McCall departed after the Fir Park fiasco and in came Mark Warburton from Brentford. A promising manager who quickly got the Rangers fans on side with the appointment of David Weir as his assistant. Signings - a huge number of players joined the club this season - Danny Wilson (Hearts), Rob Kiernan (Wigan), Wes Foderingham (Swindon), Jordan Thompson (Man Utd), Andy Halliday (Bradford), Martyn Waghorn (Wigan), James Tavernier (Wigan....again) and Jason Holt (Hearts). These all arrived in the summer on permanent deals while Nathan Oduwa (Spurs), Dominic Ball (Spurs) and Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal) all arrived on loan. In January they further bolstered the squad with Harry Forrester (Doncaster), Maciej Gostomski (Lech Poznan), Billy King (Hearts) and Michael O'Halloran (St Johnstone). They had a team far too strong for everybody else in the league and ended up winning the title by 11 points (ahead of both Falkirk and Hibs who finished on the same points). They had an amazing start to the league season winning their first 11 matches. In these 11 matches they had some thumping wins including a 5-1 win away to Alloa. This was the match that Nathan Oduwa did this - A great piece of skill in the dying minutes of the match. No harm done? Alloa weren't impressed... Quote “He’s come up here and he’s trying to show off, trying to make a name for himself. What can you do? I felt as if he was taking the p***. “What was there, a minute to go? Was there really any need for it? I can’t tell anyone how to play or not play, it’s their decision. But there were so many Rangers fans behind the goal and he was wanting to make a name with them by trying a wee trick when his side were 5-1 up. “I didn’t get the chance to speak to him after the game as he just walked off but I’m sure there will be other guys in the league who, if he tries that against them, maybe won’t let him away with it.” Would other teams let him away with it? No The first dropped points of the campaign came at Easter Road as Hibs ran out 2-1 winners. Goals from Cummings and Hanlon cancelled out a Darren McGregor own goal to give Hibs the 3 points. A couple of draws with Livingston and Morton either side of a comfortable win over Dumbarton kept the Gers clear at the top although they did then lose 2-1 to Falkirk. A penalty from John Baird opening the scoring before Barrie McKay equalised. Will Vaulks popped up with the winner in the second half before Martyn Waghorn had a last minute penalty saved by Danny Rogers. That would then spur Rangers onto a 11 match unbeaten run with just a single draw coming against Alloa. The next defeat would once against come in Falkirk in a match that will live long in the memory for Falkirk fans. 2 goals in 2 minutes saw Rangers cruise into the lead after just 9 minutes - Miller and McKay scoring. With 3/4 of the game gone it was still 2-0 before Blair Alston scored to give Falkirk a chance. Myles Hippolyte equalised before Bob McHugh snuck in to make it 3-2 with just seconds remaining. Despite that defeat the league title would be sealed at Ibrox on the 5th of April. They missed out on the title thanks to a last gasp equaliser from Harry Panayiotou saw Raith secure a 3-3 draw. The champagne was put back on ice until the Tuesday when they faced Dumbarton. James Tavernier would be the hero scoring the only goal of the match to spark wild scenes in Ibrox. The league was sealed and a 3-2 loss to Hibs and Livingston barely mattered as Rangers weren't caring. They were back in the big time - they'd completed their mission. The final league match of the season was a 2-2 draw away to St Mirren. The last goal of the season scored by Lewis Morgan in the final moments of the match. There would be success in a Cup....but would it be one of the big ones or the diddy Challenge Cup? There would be success in a Cup....but would it be one of the big ones or the diddy Challenge Cup? I'd forgotten about the fuss made by Oduwa trying to show a bit of skill and entertain the fans, wasn't it Burchill who claimed that he deserved to get halfed because he wasn't one of us? That season was probably some of the best fitba we've ever played (lower level tho) and it felt like random guy spent two seasons constantly posting about the 1 - 3 game. A few good cup results against the big boy teams in the Scottish cup before warbs sevco'd it against hibs in the final but overall an enjoyable season. Another good from post minertaur. -

There's an awful lot to get my head around on this thread but the fact that Jordan Thompson was on the books of Manchester United is probably the hardest. My favourite 2 paragraphs from that statement; Rangers will not be closed. This Club will never run up crippling debts and we will not pay over-inflated salaries to players. However, we will have a sensible pay structure which won’t threaten the club’s existence. That is what we believe the fans want. It is 1984 and the world of Newspeak.

Ironic that he's not sporting the green wrapper seeing as that is the "extra thick" variety.

Guest JTS98
One of my favourites was then the stickies (McCoist in particular) demanded to know why they had been fined in admin while Hearts and Dunfermline were not. McCoist went quite strongly on this and it was a media thing for a while. The first hint that there might be comedy involved was Ewan Murray on Off the Ball on Radio Scotland saying 'wouldn't it be interesting if it emerged that Rangers actually asked to be fined'. Of course, turns out they did. "Rangers' lawyer, in contrast, specifically asked for the club to be fined in respect of Charge 3, or Rule 14(g). He did not lead evidence of Rangers' financial position or ability to pay any fine. "Rangers did not appeal the fine." http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/8857637/sfa-clarifies-why-rangers-were-fined-for-going-into-administration Edited December 15, 2017 by JTS98
HTG
I can't face checking back but was the "who are these people" episode listed as an event in its own right? Also, the Sandy Jardine inspired (I think) march on Hampden was a belter.
Dons_1988
One of the finest parts of the administration period was the rod they made for their own back. There was probably a section of Scottish football supporters who were not that bothered about rangers dying/surviving/parachuted into the SPL or whatever. Then they started with the ‘you’ll all pure go to the wall without us! Sink us or we’ll sink you!’ Rhetoric and cemented their own fate as every single c**t in Scottish football now hated them.
