Aberdeen and Dundee United: 'Dandi' hands across the A92.

Against advice of the SFA's Jim Farry, who sent United this: "The Scottish FA do not recommend going to Belgrade, since the situation over there is highly risky and dangerous“, Ivan Golac took his club to Belgrade for a friendly with Partizan in November 1994. The Sebians/Yugoslavians (international squad) had been famously sent home from Sweden in 1992 following the UN bringing a sanction banning international sporting cooperation with Serbia and Montenegro.

United became the first club from the 'west' to play in Belgrade since Red Star had faced Bayern Munich in the 1991 European Cup semi final. Of course, Red Star went on the win the trophy in Bari.

The UN Security Council had offered a 100 day window to trial the resumption of sporting relations with Serbia in Autumn of 94. United were beaten 3-0 in front of 40,000, and kept up the habit of defeats to get relegated at the end of that season, but not before suffering a December defeat at Tannadice from Partizan. The Serbs also met Queen of the South at Palmerston on 22nd December 94, winning 4-0, two days after the United match.

Check out the goal difference. Not bad for 34 games.

Two players in the picture played for Edinburgh City and a third player's brother also played for City

Spoiler

Willie Bauld is the more famous one, farmed out as a young player but George Thomson also played for City as did Dave Mackay's brother

Stirling Albion were only 7 years old at this point.

They tended to go up and down so much that a yo-yo was added to their badge as a wee joke.

Ex Bairn Dragutin Ristic in the front there along with £6M Jerren Nixon, shadowed in the back row.

The inspiration for "Savo"'s (Steven Milne) nickname, Mr Milosevic, is there beside Bollan. The wee guy at the end is familiar too. Sasa Curcic or something?

I read, some years ago that not only do Partizan and Red Star supporters have to be kept apart when they play each other, but also when Serbia are playing at home.

A rather battered copy of Third Lanark v East Stirling(shire) from 1963/64, only 'Shire's second ever season in the top flight, which like their first ended in relegation. They collected only 12 points, 2 of which they got at Cathkin that day. (Thirds won the return game.) Two more of their points came against the Dons at Firs Park. Those 12 points were 5 more than Thirds collected in their disastrous relegation season the following season.

Despite all their trials and tribulations since - and they've had plenty - Shire have survived, albeit now plying their trade in the Lowland League, whereas Thirds disappeared 3 years later.

Beside Dragutin Ristic? Aye, that's Sasa Curcic, played at Motherwell briefly then retired young to concentrate on shagging.

A whole 8 years, eh? Apart from thame, the only other teams to have won successive titles have only done it once, never mind multiple times. Although it appears from the pictures some of the Celtic fans appreciate it.

Should Hibs win the title for the next 2 seasons it will have been 71 years since they first achieved that feat, and if the Dons should do it, it will have been 38 years since we did it.

If we win a double promotion and then win the title twice it will have been 133 years since we did it

My apologies, I keep forgetting that Dumbarton won the first 2 Scottish League titles
