tamthebam
Of the Wales squad Jeremy Goss had opened the scoring at the Olympic Stadium in Norwich's 2-1 UEFA Cup victory a few months before. He played 10 games for Hearts in 1996-97. I had Carl Griffiths in my squad when I played a computer game as Leyton Orient manager. He kept scoring. In real life he got 29 goals in 65 appearances for Orient so not too shabby.

Desp
Quite a few with a Motherwell connection in that B game. Ally Maxwell, Chris McCart, Rab McKinnon & Shaun McSkimming all played for, or went onto play for Motherwell in that side. Karl Ready of Wales also played for a season or so in the early 00's. You missed out Rab McKinnon in your list who went onto to win full caps @HibeeJibee - think he went onto get three caps as a Motherwell player. Certainly played in the Japan Kirin Cup trip in '95, alongside fellow 'Well players Brian Martin & Paul Lambert.

After a long East of Scotland League career they folded last year. I had absolutely no idea that Eyemouth ever got near the QF of the Scottish Cup, quite an achievement. Just checked the record books and see that they lost 2-1 at home to eventual runners up Kilmarnock. Cant find any record of the crowd against Killie, would be interesting to find out if anyone has details

Ajax were in the following year too, first UEFA sanctioned 73-74 (vs either Milan or a German team) In 74 Ajax beat ac Milan 0-1 6-0 they used the same trophy that Ajax had won the previous year against rangers.

HibeeJibee
64 years ago today... Monday 3rd February 1958 Representative match Scotland 3-2 Scottish League as Easter Road, Edinburgh 45,436 Scotland began preparations for the World Cup in Sweden with the new concept of a challenge match against the Scottish League. It was played before an enormous crowd - the largest ever for an Edinburgh midweek fixture at that time and perhaps ever - starting an annual contest which continued until 1965. Scotland fell behind to an early goal from Murray, but equalised through Mudie. Currie gave them the lead shortly after HT, but the Scottish League struck back through Young. Mackay missed a penalty for the League, only for Imlach to go straight up the other end and score Scotland's winner. As mentioned in the programme notes Scotland manager Matt Busby was absent as Manchester United were playing a European Cup tie in Belgrade only 48hrs later and had already travelled out by airliner. Returning he was gravely injured in the Munich disaster and responsibility passed to Dawson Walker. HibeeJibee
46 years ago today... Wednesday 4th February 1976 Intermediate international Wales U23 2-3 Scotland U23 at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham 2,222 Scotland U23 continued their excellent run of form with an impressive win in Wales. Tommy Craig opened the scoring on 20mins then a Willie Pettigrew brace either side of HT put them on easy street. Late strikes from Thomas and Deacy put a respectable slant on matters for the hosts.

I went down a rabbit hole the other night on youtube watching old documentaries of English football hooligans from the 60's & 70's and was surprised of the word 'soccer' being used more or less all the time.
