There's a long history of connections between cricket and football. Cricket was played first of course- the oldest club in Scotland being Kelso who were founded in the 1820s. The first Scotland v England international was played on a cricket ground and the Oval was used for early FA Cup Finals. Peebles Rovers' Whitestone Park forms part of Peebles Cricket Club's outfield which is why they could never enclose it properly. As well as Andy Goram turning out for Penicuik CC Henry Smith played some games for Corstorphine (maybe a better batter than a fielder, arf arf). Dennis Compton played some games for Arsenal where his brother Leslie was a player and Ian Botham played for Scunthorpe on a few occasions. Ton fans might like to know that there are a bunch of jokers who knock a ball about in the West Meadows during the summer called Morton CC. They were named after the Cappielow mob.

It lasted 88 days from boarding to disembarking; and while in Africa scarcely not travelling and/or playing till final 10 days. Incredible:

Technically speaking as we'd see it today 2 were... if you look carefully left winger is shown as Scottish League international... Bob Ferrier the 'Well legend got capped 7 times by SFL but never Scotland (born in England). EDIT: incidentally Ellis the Welshman was capped by SFL in 1939. This is from the Hobart Mercury in 1938 and mentions Scot Simon. The below might not be in the correct order.
HibeeJibee
70yrs ago - while Scotland were getting humiliated 7-0 by Uruguay at World Cup in Switzerland - it seems Hearts were having an 'interesting' time on their own tour of South Africa, in what was a very different country and era: Edited June 21 by HibeeJibee
