An hour of viewing that could make Mr Happy depressed. Harrowing viewing. Footage of when the Allies liberated the camps. Saw that on the list and have avoided it for exactly this reason. I think I'd find it interesting but not sure I could cope with it right no! Started watching the new Escobar doc with real footage, wiretaps etc. In a show where you hear real phone conversations between Escobar and his gang someone decided it would be a good idea to dub it into English so someone talks over everything. Luckily, you can switch to the original Spanish with subtitles.

Luckily, you can switch to the original Spanish with subtitles. It just tells you how prisoners were treated in each of the camps and showed video clips from the day the camps were liberated. It doesn't hold back with what it shows either. I See You. Watched this last night. Two stories are going on and I was half an hour in when I commented that I hadn't a clue what was happening but was really enjoying it. O e story is about a young boy who we see go missing right away. Our main male character is the leading detective on the case. The second story is about his home life falling apart and strange goings on within his house. It's really well done. The first half of the film is us seeing the strange goings on from the families side and the second half we see what is responsible for the strange goings on. The final act pulls everything together. I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was really well done and I loved the camera work throughout. The one bad thing about the film is having to look at Helen Hunt. She looks absolutely horrible. It's as if her face has melted and they've tried to staple it to the back of her skull. 57 years old and looks truly awful. Sad as she used to be a decent looking woman. Overall though a solid 8/10 for me.
paul-r-cfc
The Umbrella Academy Second season manages to be even better than the first. The ending to the first means that it takes places in an entirely different setting but it works so well, and every character gets a shot to impress. The few new additions to the cast in Ray, Lila, Sissy etc all add to it. Really funny too - the tiki restaurant scene in particular had me on stitches. It's been number 1 on Netflix across the world pretty much since the second season launched so I assume a no doubt covid delayed third is inevitable. Again, it has set itself up for something completely different, which can only be a good thing.

I thought it was great, especially series 2.

It was such a dumb but fun show.
MONKMAN
Blitzed the fall in the last week or so. First season was okay, then after that it got boring. Would have sacked it after the second season but with only 6 episodes left, I finished it to see what happened at the end. Special mention to when the police at the hospital allow a serial killer, to just wander about with no escort or guard. Also when he’s getting interviewed by Gillian Anderson, no handcuffs or guards. Wouldn’t watch again and wouldn’t recommend.

There was so many things happened where I was just sat there going "theres no fucking way that would be allowed to happen" and what makes it worse is Stellas focus on procedure and protocol being spot on as a key necessity. Its lazy tbh. And also although the first two were enjoyable, I just felt it lacked something. It was going for that cat and mouse cop and killer thing, but to me, there was no real thread of Stella figuring it all out, piecing it together. He just sort of, handed it to them.

I was the exact same, at least once an episode I’d point out some ridiculous form of policing that just wouldn’t happen. Also, instead of making up that he was having a random affair he decides to tell his wife he’s a paedo, which results in them having a quickie in the barn. Think that was the final straw in the believable stakes for Monkwoman, she sacked it off. I grudgingly powered through and finished it. I’d imagine I’ll have completely forgotten about it in a few weeks.

I will finish it this week, and my life will be no less rich for having watched several more hours of Gillian Anderson, but aye, it's not any better than a worthy time passer.

Loved The Karate Kid as a youngster and it pays homage to that throughout but with that Stranger Things-esque general 80’s nostalgia added in. Quite playful in the way it backs the freaks and nerds against the mean rich kids but also roots for the very unreconstructed Johnny who believes there’s nothing that can’t be resolved with a good slap. Was a bit wary of it, thinking it could spoil the memory of the original film but it’s really sweet and funny. I’m half way through the second series. Like you, love pd the film as a kid. Enjoying this as well but, in all honesty, it’s a bit shit and unbelievable isn’t it? I mean, surely no one in the world could choose to drink Coors on a regular basis.

Sorry for slight spoiler but he does get pulled up on that in one of the last episodes! Also, slight spoiler, there’s a long fight scene in the last episode and it made me wince and oooh a few times. It’s nonsense but really well done. Heavy on the produce placement too. After each episode I find myself wanting to go to the Nike store for some new running gear.
