Pretty brutal justice system, interesting if it works to keep down the crime rate though, otherwise you'd think their prisons would be overcrowded with their conviction rate. But their citizens might be better behaved knowing if they're arrested they've no chance staying out of jail. I believe the Japanese crime rate is much lower than ours. A couple of friends have taught English out there. By all accounts it's an interesting society, which values politeness, honour, hard work and orderliness a great deal.
