statts1976uk
I had home emergency cover with HomeServe and the renewal came in last week at £226 for the year and that’s with the “loyalty discount” but was with a higher excess! One phonecall later to cancel and it immediately dropped to the “introductory rate” of £74 for the year with a reduced excess. Normally I wouldn’t have bothered too much with home emergency cover but I work away from home a lot and it’s piece of mind for the wife.
Guest Moomintroll
I have 4 separate policies that are worth roughly 600k combined, if Snork Maiden ever finds out I am fucked.

Homeserve are a bunch of crooks in my experience, exemptions for everything. The oven door broke in our gas oven and they said it wasn't covered. Asked him what was covered and he said the elements. There aren't any, it's a gas oven, I said, so what is covered? He couldn't come up with anything so I said he was working for a bunch of crooks and cancelled the policy.
sjc
I had life and critical illness insurance with Beagle Street. They paid out without much fuss after helping me through the forms and advising how to get hold of the required documents. I actually had more problems with my UK GP! Oh, and the bank tried like f**k to charge me the redemption fee when I paid them mortgages off!

I remember paying almost the same for an extended warranty as the item cost - the last time I purchased an extended warranty. Rip offs

Our boiler warranty ended and Scottish gas homecare was bought to cover that and the raidiators. Guy came out to service the boiler and upon opening the control panel the plastic hinge snapped. Guy says this always happens so had spares in the van.Fast forward a year and the policy shoots up so we shop around and homeserve’s policy looks ok for a decent price. Guy comes out to service the boiler and you guessed it the hinge snaps. He doesn’t have a spare but says he’ll get someone back out to replace it. Week goes by and nothing so I phone them up and the lassie says nothing in their paperwork so she’ll get in touch with him and get back to me. Week goes bye and she calls back, says she can get someone out that week how would I like to pay for it. I’m not paying for it, he broke it you can pay for it. She says I’ll need to speak to someone. Week later I get a phone call from an ‘investigator’ saying she has looked into my complaint and finds it was broken when he got there. How did you get to that conclusion? That’s what the engineer said happened! That was the sum of her ‘investigation’ I was raging got the job sheet from Scottish gas to prove a new one was fitted and she says that proves nothing it could have broke after that. Unless you can prove to me he broke it we won’t fix it.Cancelled the contract, got a special returning to Scottish gas deal. Woman came out to service it and replaced the hinge. Said they cost £8.50TLDR- stay well away from homeserve or record them when they are in your house!

Romeo
Anyone got experience of getting or providing travel insurance for someone who's had cancer? I'm getting mental quotes for a 6 day trip to Austria
mizfit
Anyone got experience of getting or providing travel insurance for someone who's had cancer? I'm getting mental quotes for a 6 day trip to Austria Try cancer research UK. Their website used to point people in the right direction. Also, does the person have travel insurance with a bank account? If so they might get some help there, but they might exclude any condition related to the cancer.

It can be costly or even declined if the traveller is customer is undergoing or recently finished treatment. Depending on circumstances pre-existing conditions can be excluded. Depending on what cover is required medical can be excluded but this would not cover the traveller for anything linked to the pre-existing conditions. It would still cover for accidents and the like. PM me if you want and I can suggest a couple of companies and answer any questions you might have. I might even have some tips to save you money on the premium.... I have tried a few specialist providers suggests by a couple of cancer charities. I'm a year post treatment so think it's gonna be a few years before it becomes reasonable again. Looking at 150-200 for 6 days , just for me and not the wife Thinking about not bothering with insurance.

Not cancer but heart trouble and loads of other stuff for my parents, Saga seemed the easiest, but the cost was similar to yours, they were in their 90s though, so yours could be a bit cheaper. Tbh if you're not intending to paraglide off cliffs and the like, I'd risk going with an EHIC card which gives you the same deal the locals get, might as well use it before Boris wrecks everything.

Might be worth checking out if you haven't already. I was looking at travel insurance the other day and have pretty much accepted I'll not get a quote for under £200.
Cyclizine
You'll probably get away with things, with just a EHIC, which gives you the emergency cover a local would get. Remember though that most European countries charge for inpatient stays (which the locals can usually claim back on insurance). You'll also have the issue of repatriation were the worst to happen. Depending how I'll you are we're talking upwards of £25,000 to nearer £100,000 if you're on a ventilator. I've got friends who do this work and it's mental how many folk are not covered for it. Even something as 'simple' as a broken ankle, might cause problems if you're in a cast: can't drive, airline might refuse boarding. Not to mention surgical costs. Plus your family costs for getting them home or staying with you in hospital. You just have to see how many GoFundMe pages there are to get people home after various calamities. I'd strongly advise insurance, but it's up to you.
