D'Jaffo
I’m going to be controversial here but Scott McKenna was no where near as bad as what some make out. He was actually very good in his 1st spell in the season we narrowly survived relegation to league 1. He wasn’t very good admittedly in his 2nd spell and didn’t think he’d go on to be a Scottish internationalist and potentially playing in EPL. Aye he was good in League 1. Very comfortable next to Murphy and McGovern in a back 3. Championship was hard for him due to how much pressure we were under and he was constantly panicking.

It’s true though and not a surprise that a 20 y/o CB might have improved in the 5 years since. He was poor in a poor team but Nisbet was in a similar situation in that both showed signs of ability but it was more fitness and attitude that let them down. Issue with the 16/17 season was we already had Balatoni, Murphy, Meggatt and Rose as our CB options. If we were going to get any Scott on loan from Aberdeen that season it should have been Wright given our limited attacking options yet in true Ian McCall style he’d played for him before so we signed McKenna when we didn’t really need him.

Hazbart
McKenna has also yet to play in the Premiership. he wasn’t making the team in the championship for spells this year. Wouldn’t be at all suprised if he is put out on loan.

I think when they went up to the Premier League he was loaned out or left.

You’re right! I was clearly thinking of the previous season. Admittedly I haven’t really been following this year. Just recalled him not being in the squad for ages. Time flies…

If he starts well in the Premiership there is no reason why he couldn't punch his ticket to be part of the Qatar squad, which would feel genuinely surreal (obviously once we scud Ukraine and Wales).

But that doesn't fit the narrative for many on here who are entrenched in the continual doing they hand out to a 'An incredibly young rough centre half' who was just starting his career. McKenna is a fast, left footed monster of a player, ideally suited to the English game, we're now making things up about him being dropped, possibly mixing him up with that other different style centre half, who was also learning his trade ,Rose......who has incidentally been dropped periodically at Coventry.

Nope, definitely wasn’t getting him mixed up with Michael Rose and I wasn’t “making things up”. It was a genuine mistake where I recalled him being out of the Forrest team for a spell. Just got the wrong season. You on the other hand are making things up by saying he’s a monster of a centre half, ideally suited to the English game….. he’s a big unit but lacks the composure to be a quality top flight defender. Can’t wait to see him up against Haaland.
