While St Johnstone have consistently been a top flight team with the resources and the budget associated with this. No brainer for Brown I’m afraid. There's quite a few in that league of shite who simply turn up knowing they've very little chance of winning anything except another season in the self preseveration league. Their play off system says it all to me - heavily weighted towards the SPhell club. And I haven't even mentioned how well the so-called top clubs do in Europe. - oops. -

Coollestersmoothe
4 minutes ago, RandomGuy. said: Exactly. We play shite and finish 10th so why should a manager who expects to do better than shite only realistically think they can finish 9th? We genuinely have 2 of the best strikers in the league. A decent manager sorts the defence and gets them firing and should be looking to push for the top half. So a top half finish St Johnstone is the maximum ambition? Fair enough. As you said, you’ve finished up there more times than not in the last decade. Good for St Johnstone. So surely that would make getting promotion with Ayr a bigger deal and therefore a more impressive thing to put on the CV than the odd half decent season at St Johnstone. He does what he’s on course to do at Ayr and he goes to a Hibs or an Aberdeen. Then from there, who knows. The prospect of moving to St Johnstone - even when they’re cutting about with “2 of the best strikers in the league” - isn’t the massive step up that you seem to be making it out to be. And the prospect of achieving something that’s been done umpteen times before, and would warrant an impassive shrug of the shoulder off every fan of every other club, isn’t that much of an inducement either. It’s a step up, but at such a small increment as to be pointless.
AUFC 1910
At least we knew McCall would end up at Partick at some point, but Broony to St Johnstone? After only a few months at Ayr? After such a good start? Having brought in all those players? That’s snake material if he goes, no other way to look at it - for the club, the fans and especially the players.

Yeah, the time spent outside the top flight is (entirely reasonably) a point of a fun fans of other clubs bring up with Morton fans as a wind-up; the last time were in the top flight was also the last time Ayr finished above St Johnstone. That some clubs may have potential to become bigger and start outperforming clubs who have been better than them for years/decades (and those things can swing quickly, see ICT now being a far less appealing prospect than any Championship club when 10 years ago the idea of Ayr, Airdrie or Morton being better than them was laughable) isn't going to matter at all to a manager who wants to move up the ladder as quickly as possible and gets an offer from a club who are a fixture in the top flight while with a club who haven't been there in 46 years. The most obvious reason for Ayr fans to feel confident of keeping hold of Brown is that it's far from certain St Johnstone will actually want him.

The behemoth that is St Johnstone Football Club is bigger than Ayr United by every single metric you care to consider. We’re richer, more successful, our home attendances don’t typically start with a ‘1’, and we have the two best strikers in the league. Scott Brown would be a fool not to jump at the chance (if we want him).

It is, aye. You're genuinely challenging for promotion for the first time in about 20 years and have a half built stadium. We've been in the top flight 15+ years with multiple trophies and a 9k attendance behind us.

No. Can we get upwards of 6k regularly if we actually attempt to attract fans and are good to watch? Also yes. We've had an unprecedented decade of success and the Browns when they owned it had zero signs about us in the city centre and done no advertising. That'll be different with new owners.

Lay off the hooch.
callum-ayr
The biggest issue is now if he doesn’t get it. The consensus is he’s applied for it, if he doesn’t go it’s not going to go down well with the majority of the fans. I don’t imagine he’s going to be top of Smiths Christmas card list.
