It certainly didn't affect his performance against Spain in March anyway.

Well thats impossible to say, what we do know is less match sharpness will affect performance. So he may have been able to play better had he been playing regularly.

He would also have lasted the full 90 mins rather than have to be subbed off.

So yeah it absolutely affected that performance.

We seem to have entered a period (pioneered by Pep) where your standard full back - of which Tierney is a glowing example - Is almost redundant.

Watching the Brentford-Spurs game and Ange is using his "right back" in midfield and his "left back" is really a centre-back.

Just like Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool are now doing.

I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Liverpool sign a left-centre back now, which might see Robbo consigned to the bench.

Or maybe the traditional notion of fixed positioning and  "formations" are just less important.

Tierney and Robertson play up and down the length of Scotland's left hand side, adjusting their position on the pitch based on the situation in game - manipulating numbers to create advantages.

Is that really so different to what Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool do?

Doubt Timber’s injury will make any difference. The biggest issue will be that they want to sell him and both Sociedad and Newcastle are supposedly wanting him on loan.

I read that Newcastle want a loan due to FFP, if that's the case surely a loan with obligation to buy next year can be structured. I think he will move before the window closes and I think Newcastle is a very likely destination.

Is he basically fecked until Arsenal contract expires?

This guy has good contacts at Arsenal. Basically says they want to move him on but only on a permanent deal and if the money is right.

Most of the top clubs have 7 defenders in the first team squad and the Timber injury puts Tierney 7th for Arsenal (White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Kiwior and KT). They'll need to bring in a replacement if he goes whereas before the Timber injury he was genuinely surplus to requirements.

Newcastle are linked with Lewis Hall which could rule out a move for Tierney

What's weird is apparently they (Newcastle) are going to pay £28m for him. But the press has been saying that Newcastle cannot buy Tierney due to FFP rules - the fee quoted for Tierney is £25m. Now, putting aside the obvious which is that the press talk absolute bobbins constantly and have no inside info at all on the transfer market, this makes little sense. Do they see Tierney as a potential second choice? If so it seems likely his injury history is really working against him.

You answered your own question. I'd say don't put that aside and you'll have your explanation.

We'd struggle to have much of a chat about anything related to transfers if we didn't use the press as the basis for opinions though. This is a chat board so people tend to like to chat!

Bit disingenuous tbh

Not wanting to merge with another thread but this is where placing a great deal of weight on what manager's tell you falls down imo. Why believe your lying eyes when a manager with clear motivations to be economical with the truth tells you something
