I actually completely agree with your second point - addiction isn't the issue, and it isn't why people are dying. The entire problem is a lack of regulation - regulation and control of what are currently now illegal substances would see these figures drop by 75%+ within a very short space of time in my opinion. The majority of people who take drugs (not cannabis ffs ) die due to the shite which some scumbag dealer up top has mixed it with. The amount of people who die due to 'heroin' overdoses is probably a small fraction of the figure given - the majority will have died due to fentanyl or some other shite being mixed in with it. Scottish Affairs Committee have been at drug consumption rooms in Frankfurt as part of their study in trying to address the drug problem. Tomorrow they visit Portugal to look at their approach to drugs. In the 90s they had an incredibly high drug death problem. Today, one of the lowest rates. They are supported by the Scottish Govt, Scottish Lab, Scottish Greens, Scottish Lib Dems and groups across civic society.
