Drug deaths in Scotland hit record high

You have no idea what is in the weed you are smoking AND you are funding violent cartels.

Addiction is not the issue. That is not why people are dying.

Do you know and understand how cannabis is grown? Do you know that it is possible for anyone to grow cannabis if they wish to do so, simply by ordering the correct equipment and seeds (there's a wee hint to the answer to the first question for you :)? Do you understand there is no direct correlation between someone who grows cannabis and 'violent cartels'?

I feel like you have decided to have a blanket outlook to ALL illegal drugs and have decided with absolutely no evidence, understanding or basic knowledge that it's all grown by 'cartels' and anyone who smokes a joint in this country is 'funding' them  Believe me, in Dundee the majority of the time the only real thing you'll be funding is the boy you've purchased it offs lecky bill.

I actually completely agree with your second point - addiction isn't the issue, and it isn't why people are dying. The entire problem is a lack of regulation - regulation and control of what are currently now illegal substances would see these figures drop by 75%+ within a very short space of time in my opinion.

The majority of people who take drugs (not cannabis ffs  ) die due to the shite which some scumbag dealer up top has mixed it with.  The amount of people who die due to 'heroin' overdoses is probably a small fraction of the figure given - the majority will have died due to fentanyl or some other shite being mixed in with it. Same with ecstasy, cocaine etc etc.

If someone is pissing and moaning about drug deaths and the high number, but are unwilling to engage in discussions regarding regulation/ legality and things like safe rooms etc. they should, frankly, do some research or just keep their shit, uneducated opinion to themselves :)

Of course not. But at the very least it would put some perspective on the british MSM claim that Scotland is the junkie capital of the world.

But there is perspective given, relative statistics were shown....

It's a reserved matter. What's your solution?

Shut down the Scottish Parliament..... clearly they're handing out free needles somewhere around the back of the building to keep us all subservient.

My teenage nephew was one of the stats in 2018. Heroin and etizolam according to the postmortem result.

The first thing I read today was Joe Fitzpatrick blaming the UK government and using deaths to make a point about independence is ridiculous, perhaps ge should be asking rUK what they're doing to have a death rate nearly 1/3rd of the size of ours...

It is quite amusing watching the SNP and their lot falling over themselves to make sure Westminster is blamed for this.

Despite the problem being nowhere near as bad in the rUK.
And it getting much worse since the SNP came to power.

The shameless brass neck of it.

Westminster is in no way to blame for reserved matters. Absolutely not.

It very much is Westminster’s fault that long-term drug addicts from the 1980s and 90s are now popping their clogs in record numbers north of the border though. Thatcher’s neoliberal policies and wilful, mass destruction of heavy industry - without any credible state reinvestment to aid the communities affected - was a primary cause of that historic epidemic of drug abuse up and down the country.
That drug problem is AFAIK nowhere near as prevalent today but its legacy is still being borne out by today’s figures.

Interesting timing. Scottish Affairs Committee have been at drug consumption rooms in Frankfurt as part of their study in trying to address the drug problem. Tomorrow they visit Portugal to look at their approach to drugs. In the 90s they had an incredibly high drug death problem. Today, one of the lowest rates.

Meanwhile, controlled drug legislation is reserved and Westminster does nothing.

The cross party Scottish Affairs Select Committee are advocating an evidence based approach.

They are supported by the Scottish Govt, Scottish Lab, Scottish Greens, Scottish Lib Dems and groups across civic society.

Anyway, fascinated to hear exactly what the Scottish govt have got wrong that means long term opiate addicts in their 40s and 50s are now dropping like flies.
