parsforlife
UEFA hands out fines every time that rule is violated. In England they couldn't care less about it as the money any premier league game that's live on TV brings in is a multiple of the costs of the fine. In Scotland that's not exactly the case and the fine would hit much harder...Any idea on the fine amounts? Uefa fines are nearly always minimal and as long as they amount to less than the tv payment then go ahead and pay them.Regardless removing a positive from our game because we’ll bend over to some bullshit rule designed purely to protect a competition for the elite clubs that only benefits 1 Scottish club opening the gap between them and the rest and gives a small % of clubs some scraps that open the gap from the premiership to championship sounds horrific. We can’t show replays on TV provides absolutely no justification.
Marten
If the byes for a few HL/LL/Championship clubs get removed so all teams in those divisions start at the same round, there will be 60 clubs in round 1. That's 17 HL, 16 LL and 27 "others", which would fit absolutely perfectly.

OK fair enough, pity as it would seem we could have had a cracking Round 1 start next season but instead have two Prelims.
HibeeJibee
9 hours ago, craigkillie said: Probably because they can't show replays live on TV due to the UEFA schedules, and therefore you often have decisive games going ahead untelevised. Can't imagine sponsors particularly like that. Scottish Cup R4 replays fall in January long before European ties restart. In some seasons R5 replays fall the week before they restart, or R6 replays fall on a domestic midweek between. Idea that occasionally not being able to televise R5/R6 replays would justify abolishing all replays would be bizarre... you just don't televise it, or alternatively you rejig dates so they always fall OK or at least you have space to schedule a replay differently (it is becoming more common to not wait 10 days anyway: and that would permanently avoid the issue in R5 without any rejig). Clearly it would provide no justification whatsoever to abolish replays before R5, either. In any case - do a meaningful number of people choose not to attend nor watch a tie, on the off-chance it might go to a replay; but they would if there were no replays? Sounds doubtful... 5 hours ago, Burnie_man said: Who enters at round 1, Bonnyrigg or Whitehill Welfare? Bonnyrigg. Rulebook simply says that 36 clubs play in R1... all HL & LL clubs enter in R1, except the top 2s (and anyone relegated from SPFL2)... and that the preliminaries are arranged such as to get 36 clubs. Whitehill will accordingly enter at the preliminaries.

But with more increases in licensed clubs expected before 2020/21, your proposal would mean reinstating one or two Preliminary Rounds to cater for the anticipated higher number of SFA Membership clubs. The SFA may have taken this into consideration, and is playing a wait and see policy, ahead of next year ?

It was known they were licensed in advance of the 2018 EoS AGM which is why they were not included in the Alex Jack Cup draw for 2018-19.
HibeeJibee
There will be 102 sides in this season's competition. This must be the first occasion it's broken 100 in a very long time (perhaps even since Victorian times)? When were there last so many?

I think the last time there were over 100 clubs was back in 1894/95 - the following season the Scottish Qualifying Cup was introduced. The Qualifying Cup(s) remained in place* until 2006/07, and limited the number non-league entrants to 8. *There was a brief three year hiatus in the 1950s where the tournament was "all-in" like it is now, but only 76/77 clubs entered as far as I can see.
