Just like every single VAR controversy at the 2018 WC, the issue was the handball rule itself rather than how VAR was used to judge it. At least it’s unambiguous that that is definitely a penalty now under the rules, although it is obviously completely unfair on full backs as they can’t put their arms behind their backs without inviting wingers to dance past them easily.
