Ned Nederlander
This is a lively, good natured area of P&B but obviously gambling itself can be a painful addiction with sometimes devastating consequences. Not sure if there's an appetite for discussion on the subject here but I thought at least a pinned thread with links to support might be of some help/interest. https://www.begambleaware.org/ https://www.gamcare.org.uk/

welshbairn
There's a fuss about the FA allowing Bet365 to stream some games, making out that you'd have to pay £5 into a gambling account to watch. If they're talking about that crappy wee screen in the corner of the page you can watch most continental games, I just keep 1p in my account for that purpose. If people pay a fiver thinking they'll get to watch HD full screen football they'll be mightily disappointed, though I suppose quite a few could be lured into gambling and make the Bet365 CEO even richer. https://news.sky.com/story/fa-urged-to-reconsider-deal-allowing-bet365-to-stream-football-matches-11903631
welshbairn
Beware of bookies bearing gifts. Anyone on here been offered VIP treatment? All I've been offered is free entrance to Newmarket occasionally from Bet365, which doesn't tempt me much seeing as I live in Inverness. Horrendous stories here, they really are absolute c***s. dumpweed
If you have a problem, Gamstop as mentioned above can be a life saver. http://www.gamstop.co.uk . The UK gambling industry is centrally controlled so if you sign up to that, it is nigh on impossible to gamble on a UK regulated casino. If you use non regulated casinos, then you aren't getting your winnings anyway. Edited June 17, 2020 by dumpweed
latapythelegend
I signed upto Gamstop 2 years ago but its very easy to get around unfortunately. I started gambling when I was 18, just coupons and small singles and was under control for the first 2 or 3 years. It's very difficult to pin point when it all changed but it all got way out of control and turned into a compulsion. To the extent that it has ruined my enjoyment for football and I lose interest in watching a game if I have nothing on it. Lockdown has been hell for gamblers if you have no control because it's so easy to fill that time with silly bets. In hindsight, being at work provides respite even if only for 8 or 9 hours a day. I'm currently in about 10K of debt from gambling and it is a horrible feeling and the overwhelming sense of hopelessness that comes from it eclipses every other aspect of life. When I first started I found the idea of addiction absurd as I hadn't experienced it but the way it takes over your mind is frightening.
welshbairn
The lockdown's been quite good for me, apart from occasional daft bets on Belarus or Nicaraguan football I've got out of the daily habit of chasing £5 accumulators which fair mount up over the week.

Nick_BCFC
This weekend marks the 8th anniversary since my last bet. I’d suggest going to GA meetings for anyone who is struggling.

Steven Trautman
I wholeheartedly support responsible gambling, as it emphasizes the importance of enjoying the thrill of gaming while maintaining control. Responsible gambling means setting limits, understanding the odds, and treating it as entertainment rather than a financial solution. It ensures that the fun and excitement of gambling can be sustained without causing harm to oneself or others. You will not have any problems if you play on legal and regulated resources, which can be found on services such as leafletcasino.com. There you will find a review about the best $5 minimum deposit online casinos in Canada in 2023. Playing with a minimum deposit offers several advantages, such as better budget management, lower financial risk, and the opportunity to explore different games without breaking the bank. It's a smart way to enjoy the thrill of gambling while keeping it under control. Edited October 3 by Steven Trautman
