Like McShane before him, people only really realised how much he did when he was no longer here. And as a result of that there's been a fairly recent change to posters waxing lyrical over him. BUt as Cammy says, for most of the last two years, probably more on the Facebook groups than on here, it's probably been about 50/50 between those who thought he was terrific and those who thought he was vastly over-rated. As such then saying he was "poor" isn't exactly controversial. Harkins did okay for us, no more, no less. He wasn't anywhere near as bad as a lot of revisionists would have it after he departed but he wasn't "very good" either. He started well, mostly against lower League sides in the Cups, and had a great game and goal v Ayr in the 5-0 but after that he contributed little. Still occasional flashes of genius but he got lazier as time passed and his showing in the away game at Firhill we lost 3-2 in September was horrific. I actually think MT's suggestion that Harkins was very good IS pretty controversial and against most views amongst our support. Probably best not to rake over the McIntyre issue again. It's clearly me who has the controversial opinion on that one, not Monkey Tennis. I don't agree with a word of it though. For what it's worth I'm not a massive fan of the recent sky blue 100th Anniversary strip either. It's ok, and I don't tend to get very worked up about strips either way. I preferred last year's away one in the claret and amber though. And the Centenary home one with the names in the fabric. Working my way through what is a fantastic thread. Agree with you on kits. I think last year's away kit is absolutely terrific. Was delighted to get it for £15 at the start of this season in the club shop.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the much maligned Lionel Djebi-Zadi was nowhere near as bad as folk made out. When he was bad, he was horrendous, but he wasn't bad every week. Perhaps had we played him at left wing he might've become decent. He played against Dunfermline and looked fantastic tbh. So did Donovan Simmons.

Not having this regarding McNamara, he was an utter shite manager, as his time at York proved. He spent £300k on Billy McKay, £200k on Muirhead. Had we had say Derek McInnes (for example) as manager in 2013-14 or 14-15. We would have won the Premiership. Stephen Thompson saved the club, after his father put the club into £7m of debt. I appreciate the last 2.5years of his reign were shocking, but his mind was clearly elsewhere by that point. EDIT: United should re-release the "sick kit" as an away/alternate kit next season. GrahamJags
Lyle Taylor was overrated when with us. Needed at least 3 or 4 chances before he would put one away.

Needed at least 3 or 4 chances before he would put one away. His finishing wasn’t great but his pace, strength and ability to beat a man and hold the ball was. The best striker Doolan had to compete with, McDonald a close second.
Benjamin_Nevis
On strips, the annual clamour for an argentina-style away kit is cringe. They look tacky as f**k. The best away kit we've had in the last 30 years is the white Firkin Brewery one. Classic. Had Peter Marr not emptied Jim Duffy and replaced him with Alan fucking Kernaghan, we would have won the first division that season.

DA Baracus
Aye complete nonsense. It was a great squad United had then but still not on the level of Celtic. Absolutely no way United should have won the league. They definitely should have done better though. Take a look at some of the dross Aberdeen had at the time (Calvin Zola!)

RandomGuy.
Dundee United fans convincing themselves their 13/14 side was some behemoth/golden generation, still tickles me. They lost 4 out of 5 games against us without scoring in those 4 game, that season, finishing a mammoth 5pts ahead, and nobody even considers suggesting us as potential league winners. I can also only assume McIntyre has made Dundee fans forget how bad McCann actually was, considering all this chat about him keeping them up/strolling this division. Hes just John Collins. Poet of the Macabre
People wildly underestimate Ronny Deila because there was no Rangers in the league and he wasn't pals with the sport writers at the tabloids. He got 92 and 86 points in his two title-winning seasons, so was hardly some absolute diddy. To argue Dundee United could or should have won the league is madness.
