Tight minge
If you get the virus and then get over it can you catch it again for a second time? If not then everyone who’s not got underlying health conditions should just go out there and get it then spend a few days in quarantine whilst the weaker members of our society stay well clear and we just wait for a fortnight for this entire thing to blow over. ETA Yes, already cases of people catching it twice. The first noted in Japan

The figures on bbc this morning suggest worldwide folk with it was 100,000 had it, 60,000 have recovered, and 3,500 have died. That's a much higher death rate than 2% but presumably it's about those that have had it not were never officially diagnosed, and recovered without any hassle? Also, will western treatments and healthcare systems do better at keeping people alive? Or is that factor negligible until they get a cure/vaccine? I don't think anybody has a clue what the actual death rate is. We're not going to know that until proper studies are done much later. The only thing we can say is that the evidence from China suggests that when the local health system is completely swamped, the death rate will be significantly higher than if it's not.

South Korea and Germany are worth watching as they are probably doing the best job of identifying mild and asymptomatic cases. Their numbers suggest it's probably significantly lower than 2% on mortality and that the initial highly alarming picture we were getting from Wuhan doesn't have to be the shape of things to come. Having said that only a complete nutter would not take the obvious precautions at this point, but on the flip side people also need to avoid the sort of the end is nigh alarmism that the media tends to stoke and getting all Greta Thunberg about it. There is a lot of different angles from it at no point in any of our lives are we really safe from anything. As with covid as the name suggest this is the 19th strain of it which seems to be the most contageous and deadly (probably because if you look on dettol it says it kills covid just how effective it is against the 19th strain is anyones guess. Though i do think there is a bit of a mass panic over it can someone explain what bog roll is going to do to prevent it i can understand the dettol wipes but not the bog roll (i appreciate the sneezing part but there are also tissues or handkerchiefs) Presumably even when you’re riddled with coronavirus you might need to go to the toilet?

I think you're right about South Korea - not sure about Germany. But it's early days for both of them, anyway. We really need to see how cases resolve one way or the other.

Hedgecutter
Can only forsee an increase in the number of "toilets are for customers only" signs as folk get fed up of using kitchen roll.

Weetabix? Folk realise that you need milk, and that you need to go out for milk, right? Bet somebody a tenner that they can't eat a single dry Weetabix in under a minute and you'll win every time. One bite and every drop of fluid is sooked from your body.
East Calder Lion
Doesn't help when there are people as thick as the stupid young woman at the gym this morning. She walks up to the water fountain, then decided that before she fills her water bottle, it would be a good idea to cough all over the fountain, didn't even get close to trying to cover her mouth. Unfortunately in the UK this is pretty standard behaviour. No wonder one of the Chief Medical Officers said that the chances of us avoiding an epidemic in this country were "slim to zero" As someone who is on medication which impairs the immune system, I am angry that it seems there is going to be danger everywhere thanks to the ignorance of others.

People going to a gym isn't "standard behaviour" So you are whining for no reason.
