That being said, there will be a large amount of parents of autistic children around the country who have gotten ill and soldiered on with no external childcare as that's what they believed they should be doing. There's a greater amount of suitable childcare in London for autistic kids than there is in Durham.

If the pair of them were down with CV-19, it would be a bit late to go looking for childcare then. Not defending Cummings - he's an entitled c**t and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near government - but the 'did't use it after all' argument is unsound. Yep. I know if there was a high likelihood that both me and my wife were going to be ill, the last thing we'd be wanting to do is to wait until we were both ill and then try to arrange some childcare.

That's why the local relative wouldn't have worked and he had to go somewhere where they knew how to give that childcare. I reckon he won't actually say that though. The bots have put it out on the twitter so all he has to do is drop a heavy hint or two that he may have had particular requirements for the kid. That way he won't actually be lying.

Yeah, that's a strong possibility. He could drop it as something like 'our family's own circumstances'.

Boris could, have looked after him - he's already had the virus and he'd be at roughly the same mental age as a 4-year-old.

Autism can have very specific terms for certain children.

Perhaps they can both manage when they are both well. Perhaps they take turns with childcare. It's not outwith the realms of possibility that they don't need childcare when they are both fit and well, even if they are both working. Perhaps the child goes to an existing childcare provider that is not currently open.
dirty dingus
Him and his missus are known for blogging and writing articles, I'm sure if the kid had autism they would have brought it up previously.

Yes, that's what strikes me as odd about the whole thing. It was all over Twitter last night but I can think of absolutely no mention of it from before then. I wonder where it originated from.

I'm not sure if you're being obtuse or not. My mum and my wife's parents haven't had any 'specialised training' either but I'd far rather my children went there for emergency childcare than some specialist provider they'd never met and had no relationship with. I think it's fairly obvious what will happen. He'll make statement which will swing between sounding mildly contrite and witheringly sarcastic, will give bland answers to some questions, and then the Tories will say 'it's over and done with now, let's draw a line under it'. The Mail and Telegraph will swing back round to the Tory side, and it'll all be Nicola Sturgeon's fault.

While I'd obviously agree, would it be fair to suggest that it's unlikely that a parent in such a situation would have no alternative options within 250 miles?
