The zealots will be turning on the creator of the Oxford vaccine for this! Meanwhile, SAGE get it embarrassingly wrong yet again: Are The Main Event ever wrong?

I only ask because cases are dropping but anecdotally speaking, since this all started, iv never heard more folk coughing/spluttering/talking about being ill, colds returning etc than now. Yes, viruses compete with each other. It's something that's not fully understood.

If you smell the McDs fart then your mask is not protecting you from Covid. You realise that the main point of masks is to protect other people from you rather than stopping you getting the virus? Your empirical test should be - Eat McDonalds, Burp and if anyone within 5 feet can smell it than the mask isn’t preventing you transmitting COVID to others.
superbigal
Daily Summary for @oaksoft : Deaths 37 (31 day before), ICU cases 86 up from 82 (12 new admissions), In hospital with confirmed Covid 1057 down from 1076 (111 new admissions). scottsdad
Don't these people ever get sick of sounding alarms for mutations? The Moonster
How can SAGE be so far away from what reality is in almost every case? I don't understand the agenda they clearly have.

I don't understand the agenda they clearly have. I reckon they are like the Daily Express. Every year the Express does a story about the winter going to be one of the worst ever recorded. If a bad winter comes along they can say "we told you so". SAGE are doing the same - predicting horrendous stuff knowing that if it is milder than they predict, nobody will bother much.

The Daily Express put those type of articles out to sell papers, what are SAGE selling that they need to be so OTT in their assessment? Is it purely to keep themselves in the press? I just don't see what a supposed team of experts gain from being so spectacularly wide of the mark on the very issues they're supposed to be experts in.
Michael W
I can't help but think SAGE are in essence covering their arse with estimates that are overly pessimistic. GiGi
That's Romania piling on a good few thousand cases a day now as well and new restrictions imposed. Haven't read through them all yet but sounds like masks everywhere again and most public places restricted unless vaccinated. Better hope the certification from here works since I'm due over there soon.

Deaths quite high at near 100 a day for relatively low case numbers in a country of 20 million. One of the lowest testing countries in Europe so cases are probably 4-5 times as advertised with those death rates. So giving a wide range of predictions but always emphasising the worst case may be seen as a good strategy for them in some respects. I wouldn't be surprised if this was at the root of it. Said fairly early on that having such predictions etc made public isn't really helpful.
