Cop26 absolutely should have been cancelled, its amazing, NHS on its knees and the increased demand this will cause and disruption through protests etc but its somehow ok? Is it because if they held the conference digitally that NS wouldnt get to raise her profile? Not COP26 specifically, but online/digital conferences are utter shite. The whole point of going to conferences is not to listen to the speeches and talks, but rather to make connections, have discussions and the like. My old boss liked to show up to the mornings of these events, find a few likely people and go to the pub with them in the afternoon. Much more productive. That said, having people fly from all over the world to a climate conference during a pandemic seems odd.
Guest
Talking of Spain, given that they've had a melting pot of foreign tourists all summer, they haven't required testing and everything has been pretty much open as normal, then one would have to question HOW they have managed to virtually eradicate covid when we're sitting here with all these testing requirements and entry restrictions yet we still have among the highest covid rates in the world ?? Surely the press should be badgering both the UK and SG on this and ask WHY these tests remain a requirement when they quite obviously are pointless and don't reflect the science or reality as it currently stands.

We love the bevvy too much, and don’t exercise, or eat well for the most part. We are a sitting target, with the terrible health we have.

Take Spain and Portugal, they have both virtually eradicated covid (under 30 per 100,000 currently), yet face masks remain compulsory and strictly adhered to in all public transport, enclosed spaces and even in open stands at the football. 14 minutes ago, WATTOO said: Talking of Spain, given that they've had a melting pot of foreign tourists all summer, they haven't required testing and everything has been pretty much open as normal, then one would have to question HOW they have managed to virtually eradicate covid when we're sitting here with all these testing requirements and entry restrictions yet we still have among the highest covid rates in the world ?? Anyone might think masks might be of some use after all.

GiGi
My holiday to Romania has been humped, they're in proper lockdown with all the pubs and restaurants shut, plus a large weekend event now cancelled as well when it looked like it might have escaped. Fuckin booo.

How the f**k do we save energy while schools, hospitals and nursing home boilers are running their tits off for 6 months over a Scottish winter cause all the windows are open?! Stick a politician in each room. The amount of hot air coming out of their mouths you could shut off the radiators, open the windows and everyone will still be warm.

craigkillie
If the Scottish government genuinely didn't want it to go ahead they could definitely have put enough obstacles in the way to make it happen. I don't think it would have been a good idea though, it would have left them open to accusations of not caring about the environment and so on.

Billy Jean King
There is still a requirement for passengers to take a Covid test on the 2nd day after their arrival in Scotland. As there is UK wide. We are waiting on the UKG announcement which is now unlikely before the end of the month if haddies like Calder are to be believed anymore. Elixir
That reply. Straight out the Gurdasani book of hysterical lies. Also, vulnerable or not, these irrational folk wanting all of society reworked for them after their full vaccination and subsequent booster need to be told tough shit, educated about risk, or both. Get them fined if they're keeping their weans off school.

Get them fined if they're keeping their weans off school. A mate of mine has kept his daughter off school since August. She goes to his mum's every day while he's at work - his logic is that if his daughter catches covid or is even a close contact his daughter won't be able to go to his mum's and he'll need to take ten days off work and lose ten days' wages. Hard to argue with that logic to be honest. His mum's a retired teacher so she's still getting lessons.

Todd_is_God
At what point do you think we will stop the mandatory isolation period for positive tests? Or stop mass testing? The easy solution, of course, is to not run out to get tested the minute you feel like you have a cold, but that's another point altogether.
