In what ways is it substantially different for children than before? With the exception of some pish-ridden soft play centres being closed as a public health risk (not before time), we have literally been making exceptions to every other activity and restriction 'fur the weans'.
Its wildly different to a normal summer holiday, that's for certain. Theres no point in pretending life isnt shit for kids as it is for us just now. I am quite simply hating life at the minute, and it doesnt matter that I have it better than a lot of folk. The same applies to kids.

I'm not going to participate in the when or why of schools going back debate anymore, for the simple reason that the only acceptable outcome for me now with vaccines available is the as prompt as possible return of every aspect of normal life, regardless of any rise in cases caused by any individual aspect. If that means schools next week or in 4 weeks, they still need to go back in pursuit of that goal.

By the time any increase in R is shown from the first tranche of pupils returning, the vaccination program will be even further down the road, with even less likelihood of problems for the NHS and the weather will be improving. Arguing about whether or not the schools should be in because of their impact on cases rather detracts from what I think should be the stick we beat the govt with... That cases are no longer relevant

This was discussed previously. If it still prevents severe illness and death then its doing its job.
Apologies, but this is a tough thread to stay up to date on.

Considering it was a mutation which began this whole thing, a mutation has shown to decrease efficacy of a vaccine and the virus is constantly evolving, I'm quite glad that people are continuing to research new strains. People are tracking asteroid orbits and researching how to avoid devastating collisions, too.

Vaccine appointment tomorrow. Nurse, I’m ready.

You're going to be hugely dissapointed when Staff Nurse Jeanie McGlumfer gives you your jag and not one of the young ladies from your online selection.

There is nothing wrong with continuing to research. But even with reduced efficacy, the vaccine still performs much better at preventing serious illness than the flu vaccine ever does, and will have much greater population coverage.

Talking constantly about a specific, hypothetical, mutation like it is A guaranteed to happen, and B will happen abroad, helps no one think rationally.

On the subject of masks, it's one thing wearing them to go into shops, quite the other having to wear one for 13hrs at work (as I do). For hours afterwards my face tingles and I have a red rash where the mask was. Fcking brutal wearing one for hours on end

Ross Greer is one of the biggest reasons for not voting green in the west of Scotland. Had considered lending my vote but he’s absolutely fucked it with that pish.

I've supported the Greens for the last 7 years but with Andy Wightman walking away and their PR tactic now seemingly being "get Ross Greer to act like an edge-lord" I'm struggling to find a party worth my vote these days.

You in the west list area? This could be our ‘Peterhead’ moment?

My assumption is to avoid the myriad of questions that would follow about the 89 year old hermit who hasn't left the house since 1966 who isn't on the GP roll and what is being done for him.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make considering that I was responding to a claim that kids were missing the routine and interaction of school after a grant sum of 4 weeks of remote learning.

Being off school in a normal summer holidays is completely different in every conceivable way to what's happening now, so them "managing it year after year" is completely irrelevant to, well anything really.

"Every conceivable way" is just hyperbole and patently not true.  Kids can continue to sit at home and play their playstations or watch TV.  They can go out and play, socialise with other kids and if they are under-12 can visit anyone they like.

Parents are struggling to understand how schools manage to extend out lessons for a whole day when it is only taking little Johnny 90 minutes at home.  The resultant need to keep their precious ones occupied for the remainder of the day sees them longing for the schools to re-open.

Yes schools should be re-opened as part of an evidence based process.  Not just let's throw them back into schools so parents are given a break.

Just read on BBC Ross Greer saying if footballers cant respect the rules, then fans shouldnt be allowed back to stadiums

Firstly.... Lolwut?

Secondly though, the Greens can absolutely go and f**k themselves. Another party with a snobbish attitude to football and its fans.

Bloody hell, at this rate there's not going to be a Party left not to vote for.

I should qualify that if Greer had correctly stated that the arse cheeks should be prohibited from having fans back long after the rest of us have returned to our routine of shite pies and abuse, he would have my vote plus that of anyone I could successfully bully into it.
