assessment by the European Union's medicine regulator on Tuesday.

Appears to be the key to AZ being back on the table in Germany, France, Italy etc.

I suppose Monday must have been their European day off.

It actually is in Cyprus, Greece & Hungary so he's maybe away gowfing.

A bit concerning, even if not enough data yet to be conclusive, that the numbers appear to be turning upwards again:

The positivity rate table has started to turn upwards in the last few days too:

As I say, not conclusive, but enough to be slightly concerned....

AZ hasn't been off the table in Italy.

Thing is though, there is considerable damage done.

Vaccine hesitancy in these countries was relatively high to begin with and then accelerated by the first wave of 'over 65s shouldn't use it as it's not safe' hissy fits.

Every time they fire away with any sort of report of it not being safe, less and less people will accept it. You even have people here showing a bit of uncertainty about it as an overspill of their nonsense.

I know about ICU/hospital admissions and deaths, but it's still cause for concern that Scotland's number of cases is heading in the wrong direction.

It's hardly likely to encourage the SG to take the handbrake off tomorrow.

No it isn't.

The CMO actually said today that he expected even more of an increase in the first couple of weeks of schools reopening so was pleased that cases increasing were doing so as slowly as they are and they expect a levelling off then increase every step out of restrictions they take.

Constantly monitoring it but no cause for concern was the official line.

I think the damage is already done tbh. First it was claimed that it was innefective for those over 65. Now we have further allegations that it might cause blood clots. Factor in that mainland Europe already has a significant number of anti vaxers I think the Astrazeneca vaccine might be dead in the water as far as the rest of Europe is concerned

We must have opened the nail bars and not told anyone.

Indeed.
The deaths table is heading in the right direction, probably due to the vaccine:

Number of people in hospital appears to have stalled though:

On a slightly more serious note it appears to coincide with early leaning going back to nursery or school.
Of course that could just be a signal to some people to start to relax, hence the effect.
I’m not sure we should be easing things tomorrow unfortunately....

Makes sense, and let’s hope so.
Apologies I picked this up after a couple of further posts....

By my understanding the number of people in hospital still falling. Number in ICU has levelled off a bit but still way down from earlier in 2021.

There will be a lot of smug, Brexit voting gammons saying "told you so".

Worryingly, I'd have to agree with them. The EU aren't painting themselves in a good light at the moment.

It's unlikely we would have let the EU manage our roll out certainly seem like even when countries are banning the use of the AZ Vax they are doing so country by county so it's a cluster f**k if EU incompetence and member states being daft.

Fair enough pal. I was basing my comment on the fact that some of my colleagues got vaccinated on Saturday with the AZ version. Obviously just happened today.
