Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I distinctly remember Sridhar tweeting a picture of a baseball match from Taiwan, with a full crowd, holding them up as the Covid Poster Boys and how we all should be following their example

A bit like Thailand, Australia, etc, etc. It was always pure fantasy to think this could be kept out forever, and now these places will be in a considerably worse position than we are if they have to go through lockdowns for the next three or four months of southern hemisphere winter. This while struggling to get vaccines rolled out to populations which, until now at least, haven't felt any urgency to get vaccinated - and next to no immunity whatsoever in the general population. Mitigation, rather than supression, is the only realistic and pragmatic solution to dealing with an epidemic like this.

Oh, and of course all of the above is why Sridhar has pivoted away from her original nonsense position. I wonder how long it will take others to follow.

If England do lift restrictions on the 21st I fear it will be with shit like this (covid passports, apps etc). Not a route I’d want Scotland to go down tbh

Shit like this will be binned off like in Israel and Denmark when it's clear the virus has faded into the background for good. For the time being, it's another nice wee earner for a few more of the Government's mates.

You keep banging on about this but given normality with a proof of vaccination or continuing restrictions I suspect you will be pretty much out on a limb !

She did indicate that Glasgow will move to L2 from that date if the situation continues to stabilise. Will confirm on Wednesday.

No even watching it but the date to me feels like the ideal time to do it.

Todays number is equivalent of Scotland nearly having well over 20% of UKs infections.

These feckers still not attending vaccine appointments need more than this softly softly approach.

The rise is being driven mainly within cohorts that have not yet been offered the vaccine?

From a "cases" point of view that's a big number but it can only be a good thing if it doesn't translate into hospitilations or deaths.

Out of interest, why is the number so big? Are they doing a lot of targeted testing and just finding loads of cases?
