Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

They're not going to happen. If they were they would have already awarded a contract to one of their mates to make a fast buck. Vaccine passports have a short window where they could be useful. In the UK that window has already closed, and becomes more firmly closed each passing day.
They remain a threat to encourage vaccine uptake, as well as encourage people and businesses to voluntarily wear / require masks for a wee while yet. They want people to think that by doing the above, they will collectively prevent them being introduced.
They want a slow return to normal as they finish off the tail end of the vaccine roll out, not a flick of a switch.
The only use I can forsee is for international travel - anything else will not be enforceable.

The contract has already been awarded and the App exists.

They are already being used for high profile events. Next week they will begin to be used for nightclubs and gigs in England. The government have already indicated that their use will be expanded in September.

If a council say a nightclub or performance venue can only be licensed if they use Covid certificates then that will be enforceable.

Boris the knob getting slaughtered for his "populist" rhetoric....

Union leader Manuel Cortes, of the TSSA transport union, said: “If, as the Prime Minister says, face coverings are strongly recommended in crowded enclosed spaces to stop the spread of Covid, it beggars belief that the Tory government is making this an optional extra rather maintaining it as a mandatory requirement.”

He added: “The government is sadly playing fast and loose with our country’s health and wellbeing. Johnson admits we are in the middle of a third wave and that cases, hospitalisations and deaths will increase as a result of dropping these basic protective measures. It is staggeringly irresponsible.”

I have to agree. By all means go with freedom day, but keep the masking as mandatory until cases cases drastically diminish. I think hell end up with mega push back on this when the cases go back up again.

It's all about public perception and he's made a c**t of it.

Albeit later, I think Nicola is right to continue with them, but it's all about number of cases when August 9 comes around. I don't see why she couldn't give us equivalent freedom just with masks. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'm sure they stopped me getting the cold or flu last winter for the first time in years when I'm usually rotten with several bouts of it.

Why would cases drastically diminish?

The virus is circulating amongst double vaccinated people already.

As long as their is no rise in deaths then I dont see an issue. 3 million people could have it but as long as they are only having mild symptoms (if any at all) who really cares? Also the fact its "circulating" in double vaxed people just renders the covid passport futile

It certainly confirms that the passport isn't about stopping transmission.

On deaths we really won't know until the winter.

It's France and not the UK, but this is not really something you want to see - the roll out of a domestic vaccine passport.

It's scary the way the world is going. Ireland and now France. What's the vaccination rate like in France anyone know?

Clearly this is being rolled out in sync all across Europe.

Our parliament is also debating mandatory vaccination for certain jobs tomorrow.

Depends if they have been tested and have to self isolate if so it will slow economic recovery.

Solution to this is to bin self isolation. We are rapidly approaching the stage where the biggest issue with the virus are the rules the  Government put in place to stop too many 80 year olds dying

The digital passports are a load of shite, and another example of something being championed by aspects of the left which shows that they’re more interested in dividing people and less interested in actually being left wing.

Corbyn and the SCG have came out against Vaccine Passports. Most 'left' media types like Ash Sarkar, Owen Jones etc have avoided saying anything about them.

This is being driven by Big Tech oligarchs, other super wealthy capitalists and the right wing arseholes in government who do their bidding.

The government must piss itself laughing everytime an opinion poll comes back with high support for any number of harsh restrictions. We had 30% wanting a permanent 10pm curfew only a few days ago FFS.

No wonder they're trying to pull this sort of shite off when it'll be lapped up. Oh, it's only a wee sacrifice! What harm is it doing?  Oh, you don't support it? Scum! You want people to die.
