So are we genuinely at hospitality businesses only being allowed half the punters in, but not being supported for the lost income?

It's as clear as mud.

It's either guidance or it's a legal restriction.

It can't be both.

Legal for businesses.  Guidance for punters.  Agree it’s a mess.  Legally a business tells you you have to socially distance according to whatever criteria they adopt.  Legally you don’t have to.  Legally they can then fire you out of their premises.  Can’t see this causing any problems at all.

My take is that restrictions in retail premises will be legislation for all (the business and customers) whereas in home settings they are merely guidance. I don't think it's guidance for the public per se. Got to clarify ASAP if starts Friday. I suspect what's left of our works doo on Friday will hinge on this as will thousands of others.

Be some laugh if cases start levelling off / dropping by the weekend or something.

Hopefully they do and these arseholes get shown up for the knickerwetting nannies that they are.

If cases drop before Christmas they should all resign.

Surely they would simply claim that was down to their interventions today so they can't really lose in either scenario.

Don't gather in groups - apart from Christmas day. Even Covid wants a bit of turkey and a bevvy so takes the day aff.

The behavioural psychologists in the Nudge Unit have obviously identified Christmas Day and summer holidays as the most sacred things to the average British consumer so they frame restrictions on every day life as neccessary to enable the winter and summer festivals.

Even slaves in America and WWI got to celebrate Christmas.
