I think so. The comments in the guardian have been consistently pro lockdown all the way through. I read one today though and people were arguing that this mild variant means we should be a bit less worried.

To be fair to them, there have been 3 players withdrawing due to positive tests (including 2 high profile names).

With a £500,000 prize to the winner (and the associated impact on OoM / World Rankings) then you can't blame them for taking steps to try to look after themselves during the walk on, where you are in close proximity to the crowd.

They weren't wearing them at the start of the tournament so i'd imagine a few of them are a touch spooked at the prospect of being forced to withdraw.

Aye, given what is on the line for those left, having seen the field that has been eliminated and had to isolate as a result of a positive result, you’d be mental not to take every precaution going to avoid catching it!

I see now what you mean aye, guess the deaths right now aren't that interesting it'll be about a week from now where we will (hopefully) have the clear evidence all the mixing didn't make anything worse and we can get back to where we were a few weeks back.

We were talking about the nonsense covid stuff last night, like when you could be sat next to the entrance door of a bar or restaurant with a one way system and to keep you safe from the virus you had to walk through the whole place past everyone to leave 

When it's all gone it'll be v nice but they can keep doing the hand sanitizer stuff, I don't mind that at all.

Im I'm work this week and there's f**k all to do so I was "entertaining" myself looking on Google and it was crazy how we were living free in September with things looking like they were going a bit wrong (cases about what they are now but much more death and quite a large jump from the month before) without even a hint of back to this, which given where we are looking backwards feels surprising albeit the right hing to do.

Like every previous wave, of every previous variant, Omicron will happily peak on its own then decline.

Contrary to JL's comments yesterday, with this variant seemingly much milder, it would seem that you want to let this peak happen quickly, rather than drag it out "to do vaccines"

I get the impression that we are going to be dealing with disruption (and possible restrictions) long after England has ridden this wave out because we are trying to stop it spreading.

 Nope. The facemask lunacy continues. I was at the gym again today, was doing ten minutes on a treadmill. Guy gets onto the treadmill next to me, there’s no ‘social distancing’ any more, so they aren’t leaving every second piece of equipment taped off. We are therefore two feet away from each other, exercising, sweating, breathing more heavily than normal. I can get off that treadmill and wander throughout the gym to any other piece of equipment, no facemask required. There’s a toilet twenty feet outside the main gym door. Want to go for a pish, need to wear a facemask. Need to wear a facemask to walk to the changing room. Don’t need to wear a facemask in the changing room. Need to wear a facemask walking from the changing room to the cafe. Don’t need a facemask sitting down in the cafe with a drink. Forgot you wanted a Kit Kat or something? Need a facemask to get up from your table to walk the ten feet back to the cafe bar. Get back with your Kit Kat, take facemask off again. Get up to leave and walk the fifteen feet to the exit, need a facemask again.

Holy fcuk.

The shocking thing here is you’ve just blown all that exercise by chowing down in a kit-kat.
