Surely you can see how it's slightly more understandable why your average member of the public would be inclined to panic buy hand sanitiser when they have been overwhelmed with information to keep their hands clean as opposed to toilet roll?

It would be understandable for people to stock up on soap, not something which won't protect you from a virus.

Yes but that's not what I said. I said running out of hand sanitiser is slightly more understandable than running out of bog roll. Your average member of the public isn't going to be too clued up on lipophilics and if a virus is covered in a fatty sheath or not.

One of my co-workers has been coughing her guts up for a couple of weeks. Her doctor told her that she mustn't go to work under any circumstances. Despite this, she came to work yesterday, had a major coughing fit in the staff room and had to be taken to hospital for testing. 5 minutes after she departed the staff room, I entered, totally oblivious, and sat down in the seat which she had just been coughing all over. 30 seconds later, our manager rushed in and told me I had to move so he could urgently disinfect the area. RIP me.

It turns out that it was just a regular viral infection, but still... could have been me. Could have been me.

I suspect theres folk going around with similar symptoms that actually do have coronavirus- they just haven't been tested and have recovered.

It says 87 but by the time I've finished this post it will be 89.

That's 0.0001339% of the population. Image result for don't panic gif
