AFCDannyFTH
In light of being robbed of watching two cup classics over the past 48hrs, is the UEFA blackout really fit for purpose? We regularly have no representatives left in the "Champions" League post-Christmas (and quite often post-August). Sky Sports were able to broadcast Man City v West Ham tonight. Why is it one rule for them and another for us? Even just allowing us to broadcast cup games would be a start. Showing them on TV or streaming services is hardly going to affect the attendance at a midweek fixture where one team has to travel 100+ miles.
craigkillie
The reason it's one rule for the English Premier League and another for us is because of the prohibitive costs involved. They will have paid through the nose to UEFA to show that, which is something we simply can't afford.

Can't the SPFL just knock back the TV solidarity payment from UEFA in order to show domestic games? How much is the payment worth btw?
craigkillie
The two things aren't connected in any way, but I'm sure the solidarity payments are way more than the fines.
Ray Patterson
The UEFA Blackouts aren't a bad idea in theory, but the issue with playing the CL Last 16 over four weeks really fucks over domestic football. They should have an exemption for midweeks during the Last 16. As much as Atalanta vs Valencia was a great game - and it was fwiw - I would much rather have watched Killie vs Aberdeen.

Likewise - and it wasnt on Killie tv either for the same ridic reason which would have helped those like me who live (ahem...) abroad.

So imagine it will be a fair bit more now too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45978052
accies1874
Does it also prohibit showing the highlights of games? Surely that's the only reason there isn't a midweek Sportscene when they had a Friday night show for Rangers v Stranraer...

Think that would be because they had access to the live game to edit the highlights immediately. Not the case in these midweek games which is why they will probably turn up at some point today. Don't even think the game was on Kilmarnock TV?
DukDukGoose
Whilst I agree with the sentiment listening to that on the radio last night made it that much more special.
Derry Alli
It's curious as to why you never see folk starting these threads after Hamilton and St Mirren draw 0-0 followed by Livingston losing by one goal to Hibs the following evening.
tree house tam
Has anyone ever thought "aye f**k it, the champions leagues on I'll give my teams game a miss this Wednesday" ? If you ever have you're a c**t, move to England please.

You say this like eye bleeding 0-0 draws in the SPFL Premiership are a common occurrence......

I'd completely understand it if it were a regular occurrence (folk complaining). It's not though. The exact same as in the Championship folk are bleating about Keatings second yellow for simulation not being rescinded and calling it shocking. He's been a diving little c**t his whole career and has more than likely led to players accumulation of cards earning them a ban. Pick a fight, by all means. Not just when it suits though. If it was on TV, with the weather forecast, with Champions League also on, and with it being a £12 ticket plus travel after work for a lot of folk? (£12 was reasonable, but still). Not having a dig at you, but it does seem to be a reaction because both replays so happened to be somewhat insane. Had this been a ‘blacked out’ replay between Ross County and, let’s say, Hamilton that ended 1-0, would anyone be calling out UEFA and the SPFL about the unfairness of it all? There’s shitloads of fitba’ on the TV. Too bloody much. Is a ‘blackout’ here and there that much of a problem that we are screaming about more Scottish fitba’ not being shown live, resulting in the strong possibility of far more empty seats at the replays themselves? Edit. Posted this after reading the OP, and none of the subsequent replies, some of which make a similar point. And what fantasy world is this you live in? Where this season have you watched Hibs defeating Livingston 1-0. Away back to the Championship forum.

You know, the one where you invent a ‘boring’ matchup to illustrate a point. Away back to Ferranti.
naegoodinthedark
I impose my own blackout on the EPL and UEFA by not subscribing to Sky or BT.

That's a fair point. You'd like to think that most people would stand against those running our league selling it, and those who care about it, out for a pittance, regardless of thrilling domestic 7/8 goal thrillers. ETA - I've not seen the Keating's incident so can't comment really. Edited February 20, 2020 by sjc
