Betfred Cup - Group C

Recommended Posts

That was a massive win for Peterhead, blown it wide open.

If Peterhead beat Brechin and Utd beat Kelty this week, then the three teams will be tied on 6 points when the second half of the fixtures come round in November.  You'd have to say Peterhead would be in the driving seat, as being the only one of the three to take full points off a rival contender.

Every chance we could drop points against Utd and head upto Balmoor in the last game needing the win with them sitting on maximum points.

Just had a wee look, Peterhead have had a decent record in this competition in the four previous seasons of the group format, qualifying as group winners, narrowly missing out when finishing as runners up on 9 points, and a third place.

In an ideal world both Brechin and Peterhead fail to win this midweek. If that happens, then happy days. Having seen Kelty play and the way United are playing right now, I wouldn’t put it past Kelty to get something.

Did you mean Brechin, or mean Utd?  Cos I agree Utd and Peterhead not winning would be ideal for us.   kelty beating Utd on pens would just about put Utd out the running I would think?

Going to have a check back at the lowest points total a team has qualified with..

East Fife and Morton last season both qualified amongst the best 4 group runners up with 8 points. But that's the only year 8 points got you through as runners up.

The season before that Inverness, and two years previously Peterhead, both failed to qualify as group runners up on 9 points, going out on goal difference.

Basically, Utd need to win both their remaining matches or they're likely oot.

How disappointing that would be...

Hibs, Hearts, Dunfermline and Livingston look good to win their groups with maximum points. Elgin and Dundee could still do it as well but both still got Premiership teams to play.

4 best group winners would be seeded for the knock out stages along with Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Motherwell.

With Saints' goal difference, one win against either Utd or Peterhead should see us through as an unseeded team.

Its Peterhead's group to lose now..

Reaching the stage where you can't help but think Brechin shouldve just taken the 3-0 forfeit score for this group.

Mark Wilson hinted that he was using the first few cup games as pre season and so it turned out. Realistically having the opening 2 competitive  games against premier opposition was always a step too far for a young squad very much in transition.

However it must be said that the performances against Saints and the first half last night were absolutely shocking and unacceptable  , no matter how experimental .

Cautious optimism for the league campaign remains. 🤔

Playing 2 premiership clubs would be difficult enough.  When you add in that us and United have 2 months match fitness as well it makes your job virtually impossible.  Suggesting that clubs like Brechin shoud forfeit Cup matches is ridiculous and the sort of crap usually reserved for Celtic and Sevco wallopers - but it was Random who posted it.
