AsimButtHitsASix
Had a bit of free time at work and checked the results of the Scottish Cup 1st round against an ELO game calculator to see how well it predicted the results. Was pretty spot on for the majority. The system works!

FairWeatherFan
Had a look at this for the first time in a while to see what the standings would look like. Strangely to me only 5 non-league sides would be in the SPFL42. The Highland and Lowland would have the massive turnover many would expect. 1 Celtic Tier 1 2 Rangers Tier 1 3 Aberdeen Tier 1 4 Heart of Midlothian Tier 1 5 Hibernian Tier 1 6 Livingston Tier 1 7 Ross County Tier 1 8 Kilmarnock Tier 1 9 Motherwell Tier 1 10 Saint Mirren Tier 1 11 Dundee Tier 2 12 Dundee United Tier 1 13 Saint Johnstone Tier 1 14 Arbroath Tier 2 15 Airdrieonians Tier 3 16 Inverness CT Tier 2 17 Partick Thistle Tier 2 18 Raith Rovers Tier 2 19 Ayr United Tier 2 20 Dunfermline Athletic Tier 3 21 Greenock Morton Tier 2 22 Queen's Park Tier 2 23 Cove Rangers Tier 2 24 Hamilton Academical Tier 2 25 Queen of the South Tier 3 26 Falkirk Tier 3 27 Montrose Tier 3 28 Alloa Athletic Tier 3 29 East Kilbride Tier 5 30 Kelty Hearts Tier 3 31 Darvel Tier 6 32 Auchinleck Talbot Tier 6 33 Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Tier 4 34 FC Edinburgh Tier 3 35 Dumbarton Tier 4 36 Stirling Albion Tier 4 37 Annan Athletic Tier 4 38 Buckie Thistle Tier 5 39 Clyde Tier 3 40 Brora Rangers Tier 5 41 Stenhousemuir Tier 4 42 East Fife Tier 4 43 Tranent Juniors Tier 5 1 45 Forfar Athletic Tier 4 44 Stranraer Tier 4 2 47 Peterhead Tier 3 46 Albion Rovers Tier 4 3 48 Fraserburgh Tier 5 50 Pollok Tier 6 4 49 Brechin City Tier 5 51 Kirkintilloch Rob Roy Tier 6 5 57 Elgin City Tier 4 52 Hurlford United Tier 6 6 63 Banks o' Dee Tier 5 53 Linlithgow Rose Tier 6 7 70 Lochee United Tier 6 54 Cumnock Juniors Tier 6 8 71 Carnoustie Panmure Tier 6 55 Kilwinning Rangers Tier 6 9 78 Formartine United Tier 5 56 Clydebank Tier 6 10 87 Inverurie Loco Works Tier 5 58 Largs Thistle Tier 6 11 89 East Craigie Tier 6 59 Caledonian Braves Tier 5 12 99 Broughty Athletic Tier 6 60 Beith Juniors Tier 6 13 106 Rothes Tier 5 61 University of Stirling Tier 5 14 112 Culter Tier 6 62 Glenafton Athletic Tier 6 15 114 Hermes Tier 6 64 Bo'ness United Tier 5 16 120 Bridge of Don Thistle Tier 6 17 121 Tayport Tier 6 18 124 Dundee North End Tier 6

On the Scotscores site. For example Rangers got -4 last night for beating Hibs 3-2, while Hibs gain 4. My last game was Preston 0 Newtongrange 4, so Nitten got +28 and Preston -28.

There's info from the OP on the first page - it's an Elo based system so basically the gain/loss (zero sum within a fixture) is determined by the relative rankings of each team but it takes into account the margin of victory, home advantage, whether it's a league or cup tie etc Rangers lost some points because they were expected to win by more than a goal given they are 150 points ahead of Hibs and had home advantage. Aberdeen/Dundee United were ±0 because 1-0 was the expected result. Nitten would've been expected to win but not by 4 goals so got more points because of the winning margin.

I must have read this back in Aug 2020 although I was expecting something simpler, having forgotten all the Elo related stuff in the meantime…
Man from the East
Sometimes it doesn’t move as you’d expect - but most of us have a very narrow field of view. The weighted numbers do seem to follow a pattern. I like it.

Note - this does not necessarily reflect league position. Rankings and league tables are not the same. The rankings take into account home advantage, and margin of victory, and league matches are weighted twice as much as cup matches. It's also possible to move up and down the rankings quite quickly with a good/bad run of form. Haven't seen anyone else do anything similar - so I'm just putting it out there. http://scotscores.theroonba.com/clubrank/clubrank.html Is this site down now?

lowenan
No need for a lot of updates during summer. A shame it couldn’t have been kept up. But do fully understand the pressure during the season to keep up with scores and fixtures.
