lichtie23
Why? It's only for in exceptional circumstances, fingers crossed it isn't required. There will be teams hopeful of positive results. Just my opinion of course and as you’ve said hopefully it’s not required
The Golden God
So would that get rid of the bye? Or would everything get moved back a week and have have 7 play 8?

If they were willing to shift everything back surely they'd just introduce a week 18 to catch up within the regular season.

Whoever finishes number 1 will be furious about that, also how do they fit it in? There's already 3 games on Saturday and Sunday that week.

In my opinion the structure has worked really well since they realigned the leagues in 2002. Agreed. Pretty soon the regular season for all sports in the USA is going to be meaningless (see: college basketball). This is why college football is still the best sport on a weekly basis (during normal times) because every week during the regular season means so much.

More likely they'll have 2 of the games at the same time, but it's a great question.

steelmen
I get it, they have so many conferences of different strengths and I don’t have an alternative way of doing it, I just don’t like the way it’s decided
peasy23
You would think that there are enough divisional games left that somebody (Eagles really) in the NFC East can finish with a winning record, but you wouldn't bet on it.

I think they’ll all take games off each other. Probably the Eagles will win more than others, but I still see them as a 6 or 7 win team.
Brummie Clyde
Found myself being pleased that the Colts won on Thursday, as that makes it tougher for the Patriots to get into the playoffs.

lichtie23
So the seeds are as followsAFCBye - Steelers(7) Ravens @ Chiefs (2)(6) Dolphins @ Bills (3)(5) Raiders @ Colts (4)NFCBye - Packers(7) Seahawks @ Saints (2)(6) Rams @ Cardinals (3)(5) Buccaneers @ Eagles (4)The Steelers remain the number 1 seed in the AFC. The Colts bounce up into the 4th seed and in the process knock the Titans out of the playoffs as it stands. The Raiders and Dolphins both improve 1 spot but the Ravens drop to the 7th seed. The Browns and Titans are only out the playoff due to tie breakers as it stands with the Patriots 2 games back. In the NFC the Packers go from the 3rd seed to the top seed with the Saints now dropping to number 2. The Cardinals are up from 6th to 3rd as they now top the NFC West. The Seahawks are the biggest fallers as they drop 5 spots from 2nd to 7th seeds. The Bears are 1.5 games out of the wildcard spot and the Vikings a further .5 game back.

Boo Khaki
I've believed for years the NFL should have moved to a 1-8 seeded playoff format for each Conference years ago. Prior to the change to 7 for this season, they were still using the same format they were when each Conference only had three divisions, and a total of 28 teams across the league. So not only are there more total teams, but they've removed a WC slot in each conference, and because division winners are guaranteed, we now get the ridiculous prospect of an NFC East winner with a record of something like 6-10 hosting a playoff game. I'd have NHL style seeds 1-4 hosting seeds 5-8, decided purely on W/L record. Still division winners guaranteed a slot, but at least under those rules this year's NFC East winner would be the 8th seed and playing on the road in the WC round. Re-rank the seedings after every round. Edited November 25, 2020 by Boo Khaki
