Guest Posted June 26, 2023 Share Posted June 26, 2023 (edited) 960 Cup, First Round. Only my second 960 game and I still haven't figured out castling in this format. Do Like What The Curmudgeon Did would be a fair start. So excited to be playing an away match against one of the League's big hitters, I made what I considered to be a blundered knight in my third move - because I then immediately saw The Curmudgeon's own knight could fork my king and queen with his next move. I was then taken aback when he didn't, so blindly blundered on thinking I'd achieved the same fork at the other end. Technically, I had, but ignoring the bishop that The Curmudgeon had only just moved to prevent exactly that......... there's enough of a gulf in class without doing things like that. After that it was mainly a case of bumbling around the board trying to put out fires, and I suppose it was a triumph of sorts to take it as far as my opponent's 31st move for the inevitable checkmate. The Curmudgeon advances to the quarter-finals while the Exiles hope to replace their worn out team coach (The Blunder Bus) with their share of the gate receipts. There's always next season.
