I wouldn't have minded if we'd been playing it out, but we were mostly just fannying about with it in that overly familiar directionless way.

Can't agree with that. We were playing with it then didn't resort to the long punt. Plenty balls played to the free man once we'd set the trap. Unfortunately the attacking third let us down. If your two wingers are as poor as Hayes and McLennan were then you'll always struggle.

Dons_1988
Hayes has never been David beckham with his delivery into the box but recently his crossing has been absolutely appalling.

Haha, and the way we’ve played since December we don’t deserve to be either.

Agreed. Even at his best his crossing was erratic, but he always put in enough decent crosses and was a constant threat to the opposition. But it's his general play now that's even more disappointing eg poor first touch , simple passes being mishit and/or misplaced. Almost as bad as Kennedy in fact..... (Matty , not Stuart , for the avoidance of any doubt)

Was just speaking to a mate and we both agreed that he was always quantity over quality. He was so good at getting in to position that he was flooding the box with crosses. These days we're only getting him in to position to have a few goes at it per game.

Even at their respective peaks under McInnes, even though Hayes got most of the plaudits and arguably was more important in terms of overall contribution to the team, I always felt that McGinn was the much more technically gifted player.

Yeah he was. Hayes had explosive pace though and that's always exciting to watch. He had that quick burst that bought a yard and gave him the chance to cross. Now he doesn't get past the man so often crosses in to him.
