New Year in Scotland

Since circa the year 2000, Scotland has gradually (and now to a large degree) lost interest in New Year and “Hogmanay”.

I think that’s something we can all agree on.

But what is the reason? I think it’s because people realised it was meaningless pish.

Probably right. I liked it as a kid with my parents and family parties. As a young adult first footing was generally gate crashing people's houses and being unwelcome, which I soon got fed up with and maybe contributed to it's demise.

A few mates still love it and I sometimes go through the motions. She's just tested positive for covid, so I'm off the hook this year.

It also annoys me how Steak Pie at New Year was invented and retconned in circa 2005 into being a “tradition”.
I think you've got that one wrong.

My mum remembers having a steak pie dinner at the bells when she was wee.

This would have been in the early 50s.
