10menwent2mow
With Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd failing to win last night, Rangers have clinched top 6 football post split due to the fact that Aberdeen, Utd and Hibs all have to play each other. Celtic require 1 point to clinch top 6, were Utd to draw with Hibs and win the rest of their games they could get to 54pts, were Aberdeen to lose to Utd and draw with Hibs they could reach 54pts and with 2 draws against Utd and Aberdeen, Hibs could still reach 54, Motherwell only have to face two of those 3 so defeats to Aberdeen and Utd could still see the Steelmen reach 54pts. The Top 6 champagne will have to remain on ice at Parkhead at least until tonight. At the bottom, depending on the result tonight, Dundee and St Johnstone could be eliminated from title contention at the weekend.

'St Johnstone keep their title hopes alive with a dramatic win at Livi.'
10menwent2mow
Celtic clinch top 6 football with victory in the Glasgow derby. Dundee and St Johnstone could still both be ruled out of title contention this weekend should they both lose and both Celtic and Rangers win. This would be due to the fact that both Rangers and Celtic have now secured Top 6, meaning another Glasgow derby. If Saints and Dundee lose, their maximum points tally will be 60, victory for Celtic and Rangers will mean that due to the last derby, one would finish on at least 61 should they both win this weekend. Can Saints and Dundee keep the title dream alive.

10menwent2mow
The league is now a 7 horse race with Ross County, Aberdeen and Livi all ruled out of contention for the title at the weekend. Livi and the Dons can claim the second champions League spot however.

10menwent2mow
As of the weekend. We are now down to a 3 horse title race with only Celtic, Rangers and Hearts in contention. Dundee and St Johnstone could be ruled out of the Top 6 by failing to win this evening. Should Dundee lose to Hibs, and either Livi or Dundee Utd win their clash, a Motherwell win over County will condemn Dundee to the bottom half. A draw at Almondvale (or whatever the f**k it's called this week) would keep the Dee's hopes alive regardless of other results. As would a draw for Dundee against Hibs. Saints face a tougher task at home to Rangers. Defeat would mean a total of 35 points being the most they could manage pre split meaning that a point for Motherwell and Hibs this evening would see them facing bottom half football. ETA - The fact that the club's from 4th to 10th have to play a lot of games against each other pre-split almost certainly mean that regardless of what happens, Dundee and Saints are fucked but I can't be arsed working that out. 10menwent2mow
Yes indeed, Hearts have sealed Top 6 football and despite victory last night, Livi will have to do without Champions League football in the 2022/23 season. As will Utd, Hibs and Motherwell, who were also eliminated from that race last night. Perth Saints will definitely play bottom 6 although there are still scenarios that could see Dundee claim a top 6 berth although they are very complicated and there would be a number of permutations that would allow this. Dundee will definitely need to win all 5 matches so failure to win on Saturday will mean they are confined to bottom 6 barracks. 10menwent2mow
It's Albert Kidd day all over again as Hearts, despite winning against Livi, are ruled out of the title race. The heartache (pun intended) goes on for the boys in Maroon. The top 6 waters were further muddied by Aberdeen's win against Hibs. and there are so many permutations that I'll wait until the last round of pre-split fixtures before going into them.

10menwent2mow
Ah f**k it, I'll have a wee bash at Top 6 outcomes. Dundee Utd - Clinch Top 6 with a win if at least 3 of Livi, Aberdeen, St Mirren, Motherwell and Ross Co fail to win. If Motherwell v St Mirren is a draw, they will be guaranteed with a win as Aberdeen play Ross Co last game. They will also be guaranteed with a win if Motherwell beat St Mirren as that would mean Hibs, Aberdeen, Livi or Motherwell (as they play each other last) and St Mirren would be unable to catch them. Utd are the only team that can guarantee top 6 this weekend. Aberdeen are the only team that can definitely be ruled out this weekend that will be the case if they lose at Dens and 3 of the teams above them win. I think that's about it. I think Hearts can secure European football if they beat County, Aberdeen fail to beat Dundee, Motherwell v St Mirren is a draw and Livi and Hibs both lose. That would secure a top 4 finish for the Jambos.

Dundee United (-6) are 8 clear of both Motherwell(-14) and St Mirren(-14) on Goal Difference so providing Motherwell vs St Mirren isn't a complete rout in either direction they don't need to worry too much about finishing on level points with them

We only mathematically ruled Hearts out of the title race last week, it was never going to happen but it was still possible.

No, only the Top 3 are guaranteed to avoid the drop and that will remain the case after this weekend unless Dundee Utd clinch a top 6 berth.
