Zetterlund
When our previous 2-year fixed deal ended on Dec 31st, our peak/offpeak rates went from 16p/9p to 34p/26p. Obviously a sore one, but it's at the 'price guarantee' and everyone's in the same boat. We just got a request for our first meter reading and the letter quotes our rates as 68p/62p which is clearly outrageous and in theory not allowed, and my wife spent nearly an hour waiting to get through to them on the phone before giving up. This whole sector needs razed to the ground and started from scratch. Absolutely nowhere near approaching fit for purpose.

They know full well they can gouge the absolute f**k out of their customers and the Ombudsman and government are going to do absolutely nothing about it. What a country.

Is that unit rate before the discount for the energy price guarantee is applied? Mine is the similar to yours but once the discount is applied it takes it under the cap.

Electric is fine but that's two gas ones that have packed in completely, just totally dead, so engineer due in a couple of weeks to fit a 3rd one. Asked about changing back to a standard meter as these things frankly aren't worth the hassle, but told there is a £125 charge to change back. Duck that. It's been gubbed since Sept and they've been estimating bills since then, based I presume on the previous years figures. Told them my usage has been vastly down on last year due to cost increases, and a period of 3 weeks away on holiday (so no usage at all) included in this time frame. Will be fighting them tooth and nail over every penny. Oh, and they tried to increase my DD from £197 to £346 without as much as an email, just found out by logging into my account. They can f**k right off with that one.
Bairnardo
I've just gone to an Eco 7 tariff with peak at 43.75p, offpeak of 20.67p and standing charge of 55.1p. Hoping to save some coin by taking my first 8.2kW of each day into the battery at 20p.

You'd think this relevant detail would be included on the statement but we can only see it by logging in via browser online (the mobile app also says 68/62p).

Am I being thick here or does this mean the companies are being allowed to crank the prices up over the cap and allow a govt initiative to pay that excess, ensuring they squeeze every available penny out of both govt AND consumer?

The Government is paying the excess mind. The energy price guarantee and the price cap are different. I don't actually know what the price cap is, but I think it's in excess of £4,000

I’ve had all sorts of issues with my energy supplier recently. Absolutely scandalous behaviour from call centre staff (when you finally get through to speak to a human). It is quite clearly instructions from on high that these staff are working on.

Todd_is_God
With energy prices now expected to fall below the Energy Price Guarantee in Q3 & Q4 I wonder if this comes to fruition if it might re-open the market for competition and see providers offering fixed price tariffs again. I'm seeing a good few adverts from OVO lately about switching to them, which is something I haven't seen for some time.
bdu98196
Energy companies yet again ripping the piss assisted by the government. Refund £67 every month, then review the customers DD amounts before hitting out with 'your amount needs to increase because you have been under-paying us'. In my case £100 per month DD, which based on last quarter my total bill was £296, however due to the £67pm refund I had only paid £120 towards it so made a manual top up payment (at time of billing).............does that matter, does it f**k they are still wanting to increase my DD now to £150. Just another way to take customers money and keep it in their accounts...............c**t behaviour from them all in what is best described as a cartel fucking folk over
Todd_is_God
It's scary how many people think Ofgem are going to be "increasing the price cap despite prices falling" in April. They are not. The price cap in April is going to be lower than where it is now.
Todd_is_God
It's not funny, obviously, as it's expensive AF, but we are only hours away now from the "outrage" at ofgem for increasing energy bills despite them cutting the cap by almost £1,100. The 3 monthly review is actually benefitting the public the way it was said it would.
DA Baracus
What benefits are we getting when the energy prices continue to go up? This is at the same time as the government help is being removed.

This is at the same time as the government help is being removed. Energy prices aren't going up, though. They've quite literally just come down by £1,000. The reason they appear to be going up is the bit in bold. The reason for rolling back the energy price guarantee was because it was uncapped and uncosted. The UK Gov now know what the cost of extending this to July (when the cap is currently forecast to fall by about £1,000 again) would be. I'm surprised tbh no-one from Labour has been lobbying, even just to annoy them, the UK Gov to extend the guarantee till July.
